Your art.is excellent. The media has changed. My MFA advisor had short stories in The New Yorker in the 1980s. Now she receives standard rejections from them.
I absolutely agree about the mainstream media, Liza! I used to enjoy CNN, but now they are just a bunch of Talking about nothing heads. And the guests...Take 'Smirking Scott' for instance. Or any of the other pro MAGA people. They don't even answer the softball questions. The 'correspondents' lob softballs and never follow up after getting a non-answer. Don't even get me started on the arguing with and over each other. I believe it was Abby Phillip last night who let a panel of 4-6 people talk over each other, yelling back & forth, while she didn't even attempt to exert control. They are beginning to sound like Fox.
I'm really glad that you have outlets like Substack where you can share your amazing talents. We appreciate you; we love you!
I share your concerns about mainstream media. In so many instances, the headlines or the interviews are really designed to stir the pot. I think it's less true with many of the print stories to which the headlines are attached -- excepting those that are too focused on the horse race!
I'm glad you so explore and pursue new avenues for getting your creativity and though out there!
I read all your posts and love your art. I share your opinions and point of view and appreciate your non-threatening approach to sensitive topics. I have been doodling, cartooning and illustrating all my life (I’m going to be 70-yikes-how did that happen). I’m also telling everyone to check you out. Thanks for brightening my days. Betty Lee
Such a poignant, deeply personal assessment of how the 4th estate is changing. I hope you don’t feel left behind because you are a vital contribution to our everyday understanding of what is going on in this mad, mad world!
I love your posts, both the art and the commentary. Things certainly do change. I’m a small time photojournalist. For a number of years I was able to do news and events photos with many front page shots. And the pay was pretty good for our little part in f the world. But now most people get their “news” from often questionable online sources so the work has diminished. At this point, I almost always have to write an article to go with the photos. Oh my, that drives me nuts so I just have been doing less and less. And the pay isn’t that great anymore. But I don’t want to retire completely either. Who knows 😳
Liza, I recently received a survey from WaPo about subscribing to a new premium service that sounds an awful lot like Substack. My survey answers pointed out that I am already getting brilliant deep dives on important topics from people like you! Main stream media are trying not to lose us to the more credible sources like Substack, but most already have. I canceled my longtime NYT subscription after how they covered the debate. I no longer trust them. I remain thankful for your work Liza—I take every chance I can to introduce your work to others.
I for one look forward to all your posts. Creative, insightful, and a friendly feeling with your writing, “down to earth”; neighborly.
Thank you! Lovely to hear, I really mean it.

Lisa,
your strokes both drawn and written,
Sketch life's truths with grace and wit.
Your Substack posts, so real and fitting,
Refresh my soul, bit by bit.
.
With pencil sharp and words so clear,
You capture moments, big and small.
Your art and thoughts, I hold so dear,
They rise above the daily squall.
.
Today, I've made a choice so fine,
My coffee fund finds higher ground.
A founding member, I align
With your creations, so profound.
.
Three months of lattes gladly traded,
For a year of your insights, unabated.
Your down-to-earth views, never jaded,
Leave me inspired, elated.
.
So here's to you, dear Lisa D.,
Your talent flows in lines and hues.
Your Substack's now a part of me,
A daily dose of vibrant views.
.
Together, through your art we'll grow,
As you sketch the world we need to know.
☕️
Thank you so very much, GLoria! I saw that you became a Founding member. I greatly appreciate it. I will email you soon.
Excellent post today!
Thanks!
This is a great article. Appreciate it.
Thank you!
In these times of turbulence, you and Bob Dylan are my anchors. Thank you for keeping me moored in this port called life.
Terry, such great company, I'm honored!

Excellent article.
Seems most of my favorite broadcasters have whored themselves and are now virtually unrecognizable.
