Nice drawing, I especially love how the bird is willing to bravely stand on the pointy tip while maintaining its commitment to its values.
Very sad about Navalny. I highly recommend the Academy Award winning documentary that was made about him. It begins with a long, brave, soliloquy of Navalny talking to the camera and describing how he would like his story to be told. In his razor sharp wit and dark Russian humor he says: “Don’t make it boring. Make it a thriller.”
The film gives you an astoundingly up close view of his life during exceptional and ordinary moments, especially with his wife and family. And his courage is mind boggling. At a screening I asked the director of the film, “what was it like to be with someone who was so brave,” and the Director said, “Alexei says he’s not brave, he says there a far more brave people all over Russia, those who stand up to Putin and his system every day, and they are not famous people, and they pay a high price, and they don’t stop.”
Oh, I did see the film, it's amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting Daniel Roher, the director as well. Navalny was so brave and such an inspiration. I hope his legacy is continued with force.
I don't automatically hate Russia. My maternal grandparents came from the Russian empire and when I was a boy, my mother was relatively sympathetic to Krushchev. She spoke Polish and understood some of the Russian he spoke. in any case we were open to thinking them ok.
And as far as Russians are concerned as people, they are to be pitied. But their president is a beast.
I read Heather Cox Richardson regularly. Sometimes I skip her if I'm sick of politics but she is a very good analyst. Enjoy your day off even though it's such little time. Almost like a catnap relative to working days.
Thanks for leading me to Heather Cox Richardson. She is one amazing political analyst and writer. You and Heather are now my two favorite daily reads. Better than the so-called "news" that keeps the wrong American political person in the spotlight, and owes at least equal time (if not more) to the honest, decent, moral, not sufficiently acknowledged, accomplished, real man. (Do we know who's who here?) Have yourself a fine weekend with family. (It's raining again here in the San Francisco Bay Area. . . . )

yes, I have traveled to Russia, it was the USSR when I went there. It is all very sad.
Waiting for Russian mothers to put an end to this.

Enjoy your time. Sad about Navalny....he was a true martyr to freedom. May he rest in peace.
I am so sad. We must take his words to heart here too!

Thank you Liza. I found that quote at the conclusion of Heather Cox Richardson's letter this morning profound and very important to hear!
Thanks for sharing it.
Have a good weekend with family.
