Tonight the theme was “Make America Safe Once Again.” All the speakers spoke to that, there was a lot of talk about how scary things are and how the Democrats are “letting” a lot of horrible people into our country. Right now as I begin writing this, it’s 10:15 and they have onstage a string of “ordinary Americans” speaking about how their lives and loved ones have been “hurt” by President Biden’s policies.
Here are the speakers I drew over the course of the evening. I will mostly let the drawings speak for themselves and not offer a lot of commentary, although I have a lot of thoughts. I must say this was not pleasant to listen to, it got very nasty at times towards Democrats, Biden and Harris, and I heard misogynistic and anti-trans and anti-immigrant talk.
.
Jim Justice, former Governor of West Virginia and his dog, named Babydog, stole the show for a brief moment. I didn’t listen to most of what he said, so I don’t know why the dog was there.
All the CNN pundits found Ramaswamy very hard to take, even the Republican pundit.
I don’t recall at what point Trump arrived. He seemed to be the same old Trump. Whatever I saw last night— potentially changed man— is not there.
He listened to Nikki Haley—who was booed when she walked out— but Trump never smiled and seemed critical in his demeanor. She seemed unhappy. While she said she fully endorsed him, and praised him throughout her remarks, I think her tone annoyed him. Also, she is a strong woman (although I do not agree with anything she stands for).
Trump loved Ron DeSantis’ remarks, however. They were nasty.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders was brutal and angry.
It was a night of people, one after the other, speaking to please Trump. I found it difficult to listen to.
Have a good evening, see you tomorrow.
Those people [sic] are so horrible. Do they actually believe all the lies and crap they are spewing in public? Are they totally unaware of what that "Mein Kampf"-like document means for their so-called "beloved" America -- and for them personally? Historically, I'm thinking this evil path was originally laid by Republican President Richard Nixon. I don't think his Republican predecessor, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was leaning in that disgusting direction. And then Reagan and the Bushies just kept bulldozing the underbrush to extend the path to the edge of the cliff, where our precious democracy, along with the Constitution, are hovering on the brink. Okay, rant over. Thanks for listening.
I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to watch/hear all of that. I can’t even watch the news coverage of it. It makes me want to vomit.
Thank you!
