I had a fascinating day at the 100 Centre Street courthouse in lower Manhattan for the Trump Trial. I did not make it into the courtroom where Trump sits, but here is a drawing of the other press folks in the spill-over room. I guess next time I’ll have to arrive to get in line at about 6:30 in order to get into the actual courtroom, where it’s all happening. I got there at 7:30!
Today we heard more testimony from the lawyer for Stormy Daniels. This led to exposition for the jury as to how the Access Hollywood tape in 2016 became a frantic springboard of all sorts of machinations (and payments) from those trying to protect Trump from any and all reports about his infidelities.
Here is said lawyer, I drew him from the monitor in the spill-over room. I have to say, seeing Trump from the monitor as he sat in the courtroom: he looks very small. And the people outside the courtroom who support him are very few.
And here is a black line sketch of the courtroom I was in that was used as a spill-over room. All the police and press and everyone was so nice— for such a high profile, tense event, all were in good and friendly spirits. I love New Yorkers.
All of the other drawings are with my editor at The New Yorker right now, so I can’t show them to you yet. I am hoping to do a piece for them about this experience. Can’t wait to show you!
More tomorrow! Thanks for being here.
Thanks for being there. Hope the New Yorker buys your entire spread.
Good on you..... I hope you get to do the piece. But, Liza, you shouldn't have been surprised. When he's not in control, the orange man is very small. He fades into himself, forming half an orange "C." It must have felt weird, sitting there, though.
