It's so exhausting, right? And he's not even in the White House yet....acccccchhhhhhhhh!

Thanks for this.

My head's drooping again...time for my nap so I can keep watching Rome burn (some parts literally).

I really miss the wapo Editorial Cartoons. I looked forward to them each time I read the paper. I have also quit the paper due to Bezo's. I wish all subscribers to the WaPo and the LA times would quit and find newspapers that are still free from billionaire owners heavy hand.

You are a leading light for your profession, beyond your own work, as a documentary filmmaker, a chronicler of the state of the artists, a broadcaster and a writer, an observer who purposes herself to get out in the world and let eye and ink have at it. You are a true friend to your colleague when friends are needed.

David Shipley should be embarrassed at the least, publicly shamed? IMO Definitely.

Absolutely. He ought to be ashamed of himself. Methinks he doth protest too much. Mink! (my Army Veteran brother -- 35 years -- pronounced 'mink' as his preferred insult to replace 'weasel' and I trust my little brother :D )

Liza, I know that editorial cartooning is the most challenging form of cartooning. Very few cartoonists qualify for the task. Unfortunately, major newspapers are afraid. Reports of looting in LA are nothing compared to the Grand Looter of our times, Donald Trump. He is looting the rich and all Americans of their rights and shattering the delicate glass of democracy.

Michael’s post with the phrase ‘…shattering the delicate glass of democracy’ is so apt for these times. It is so disheartening to see people who could be lighthouses in this coming darkness give up principles for fear of retribution by a flawed would-be dictator and his oligarchy. It gives the appearance that loss of money is much more important than standing up to tyranny. It would give us so much more hope if they at least waited until the ‘troubles’ begin and be the points of light we need. You and your drawing cohorts may be our only points of light right now.

Doug, you have described the reality perfectly. As you stated, the "fear of retribution" seems to overpower the willingness of so many to man the lighthouses and illuminate the "coming darkness." Good comments.

Thank you so much. My subscription runs out in a couple of days and I haven't had the heart to engage even though I have access. Scum sucking piles of equine biosolids. And that's insulting equine biosolids. We need public ownership of papers of record. Get rid of the Bezos' of the world.

Let us all be heroes of our own country and its small D democratic everyday needs for a responsible citizenry. It is no small matter that we need each other in all times, particularly in this one.

Ann Telnaes was one of the reasons I read the Post. Absolutely brilliant and I agree with you Liza that the cartoon in question wasn’t offensive. When I think of cartoons The NYer published even in the ‘thirties, it’s shocking to realize where we’ve arrived. I hope she lands in a good place. So glad you wrote about this.

I meant to say that she shouldn’t have been forced to quit even if the editor found the drawing offensive. That’s the way a free press works. I think he was just scared to publish it.

Ann Telnaes is the canary in the newspaper mine. Thank you, Liza, for Ann's article and for the cartoon of those buffoons who have inordinate power.

Michelle Obama and Nancy Pelosi won't be going to the inauguration- I respect that. They are both women of high moral fiber and both have endured harsh words from Trump. I will not be watching, but if my hand goes to the remote I will just watch the Bravo channel. Better that fake reality show there than watching the other.
