Just heard the news that FBI Director Christopher Wray says he’ll resign from his position, leaving it open for Trump to appoint whom he wants. That appears to be Kash Patel at this point, if confirmed. This is unfortunate news, I was hoping Wray would stick out the last 2 year of his 10 year term as director. He was appointed by Trump, but acted unbaised in his role. He spoke to his employees and said,
“I’ve decided the right thing for the bureau is for me to serve until the end of the current administration in January and then step down,” Mr. Wray said, adding, “This is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.”
Wray probably just wants to get the hell out of there.
But some potential good news, via Joyce Vance. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is the only one who got a conviction of Trump, is not accepting that Trump’s pre-presidency involves any immunity. Bragg has asked Judge Merchan to not accept Trump’s request to dismiss the case.
“There are no grounds for such relief now, prior to defendant’s inauguration, because President-elect immunity does not exist. And even after the inauguration, defendant’s temporary immunity as the sitting President will still not justify the extreme remedy of discarding the jury’s unanimous guilty verdict and wiping out the already-completed phases of this criminal proceeding.”
It’s up to Merchan to decide, but Bragg is making his case that Trump could be sentenced now, or later, and any punishment could be defered until after he serves office. He needs to be held accountable.
I’m on the road again, about to board a plane, and you know what that sometimes means! A drawing of someone at an airport! From my observations, this woman is wearing the prescribed outfit for travel for LA women under 30. I drew this on my iPhone with a stylus.
Below is a sped-up video screen grab.
And for those of you who want to see the process more slowly, here it is in real time.
Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow!
Liza, Your drawings always sparkle and capture real people in real life situations. Thanks for your daily updates and insights.
I have always had deep respect for the FBI, in this case meaning AFTER J. Edgar got out of it.
Now, I suppose the Bureau will sink into the quagmire of politics, imcluding the illegal retribution that Trump so despeately seeks. Well, let's see: a Republican Congress will probably be subservient to Trump, and SCOTUS will probably do his bidding as well. It is going to be a rough four years. I wish I still had my little house in Quebec.
