My tree is not up yet either. My father who is now 97 was brought up putting the tree up on Christmas Eve. He always thought that anything any earlier was too early.
So I am happy to hear you haven’t gotten yours up and reminding me that I still have a day. So I can stop now and put up the tree on Christmas Eve like Liza.
Our family tended to put up the tree close to Christmas also… But always I will remember the golden light in the living room, lights on the tree and probably no other light source… Warm and inviting like an idyllic Christmas card. My brother married a Brit and loved giving himself wiggle room with presents, speaking not only a Boxing Day, but also January 6 when some cultures do the gift exchange, honoring the urban myth of the three kings arriving after 12 days of travel. So, recent political events aside, January 6 to me is a beautiful date to acknowledge and to have the tree and decorations up at least until that time. Call me a sap… You’d be telling the truth. Have a beautiful season.
Liza, I can't believe how fast this year has gone. I just took down last year's Christmas tree. Maybe I should leave the tree up and take the house down. Trump should spend Christmas in prison for being a traitor among other things. Happy holidays to you and all your readers. Warmest wishes.
Christmas is all wrapped and ready. The spouse is home from Austria and puttering in her garden. I'm the chef, so my day to shine is about to start.
On the political front Trump appears to be toast, even before the swearing in. He got none of his budget wishes, plus a Speaker and 38 GOP Representatives, he can't count on. The Gaetz report is about to make the confirmation process he wanted to sidestep prime time news.
Have a great week with two holidays to celebrate! I love that President Biden is trying to do what he can to protect the country from the excesses of the next presidency. Too bad our justice system couldn't do more, faster.
Beautifully stated. Amen. A relative recently posted what seemed almost a rant as though Biden and Harris have gone AWOL and are completely missing from the news… I don’t want to engage too deeply, but I’m sending him some Substack posts and am just presuming that somehow he’s not tuned in to authentic news sources. There’s a lot of quiet work going on, for the good of the American people. Why would Biden and Harris do anything to enter the fray of the clown car circus we’re all witnessing in the House and more? Just keep moving forward steadfastly with ethical intentions and get as much done as you can.
Good luck with that 20 pound turkey! Thank you, thank you thank you for reminding me of turkey tetrazzini! I know there’s a Stouffer‘s version but my mom made the best ever and you’ve inspired me to dive back in and make a batch. Yum. Enjoy your celebrations. Thank you for your graceful intertwining of news with editorial observations, via words and sketches.
Your cartoon today said it all today,Liza, and I decided no tree this year, because all the kids are doing Christmas with the in law's. I just stuffed gifts into boxes and mailed them, just hope they'll reach them before all the festivities start?!! 🤗 Happy Holidays to you and all your readers Too 💯👍🎄✨☃️🎁
Feeling hopeful about the bipartisanship on releasing the report. Which is not to say that Gaetz was ever Mr. Congeniality in Congress. Celebrating both Christmas & Hanukkah here. 🎁🕎
My tree is up. When I take it down, I'm seriously thinking about donating it and most of the decorations to a local thrift store. All of their proceeds go to helping homeless people. After Christmas, I'm gonna see if I can find a small, tabletop tree for future Christmases. I love the lights, but I'm getting older, I live alone, and I need to start simplifying things. I hope you have a fabulous holiday, Lisa. Thanks for your "gifts" throughout the year, they give me hope!
Turkey soup is our favorite leftover dish. Years ago when we lived in a Syracuse, NY suburb we used to dine at a local turkey farm’s restaurant. Their turkey soup was amazing! So we decided to start making Turkey vegetable soup and begin rendering the carcass overnight after the turkey feast. Lots of turkey, vegetables and herbs go into the soup and our family loves it! Enjoy your celebration! Be ready for the upcoming roller coaster ride 2025 and beyond — it’s bound to be riotous.

I just haven’t had it in me to do it yet.

We definitely cook and bake for the holiday. Eating good things at Christmas and listening to holiday music is traditional for us. Best wishes to all.

Wishing you Happy Holidays and delicious tetrazzini!
Cute cartoon!
Pleased the Gaetz report was released.
Happy Hanukkah and Christmas, etc., to all!
Tree? Hahahahhaa. Merry everything 🥰🌴🎋🎄
I'm not sure the attendant of “Loans for your Christmas Tree” is Dickensian enough.
