This season always evokes memories of past traditions and how they have merged with new ones. For example, my parents always had an open house for the neighborhood on Christmas eve, and my mother cooked and served creamed oysters on toast. She wore a fancy christmassy skirt that had sparkles on it; she was in her element as she welcomed people into our home. We are having a neighborhood party, but later in the week. I will think of my mother as I prepare (but will not wear a sparkly christmassy skirt, sorry to disappoint you).
I have made Christmas stockings for three friends who will be joining us for Christmas dinner. Some things are silly, some are nice, and it was so much fun for me to do. It's a bit of a tradition now along and I have elf hats for the men and sparkly reindeer antlers for the ladies. We all have a jolly time together and give thanks for the miracle of Christmas!
I love the boa! (I had a blue one my mother sent me once). You’ve made life better for so many, I do think that you might want to find a sparkly skirt though! (Among other things I got my son-in-law a slinky toy) merry merry Christmas!
Love, love, love this Liza! You are reminding me that when I was a teenager, my Dad (a very quiet man with a cute sense of humor) gave my Mom 1,000 black jelly beans for Christmas. (She loved the black ones best!)
Merry Christmas Liza. It’s fun to reminisce of Christmas’ past. My mother was also the hostess with the mostest. As a kid I came to expect it and didn’t have a clue as to how she pulled it all off with such flair. Ashamed to admit I didn’t know and didn’t care! It wasn’t until I became a wife and mom that I realized how much labor, imagination and care went into it. Surely she was exhausted a good part of the time. Miss her:(
Lovely gift you’ve given us by stimulating memories of our past holidays. My best was when we, a Los Angeles couple, spent Christmas wandering the streets of San Francisco. We had pizza for lunch. We sat on the bed in our small boutique hotel while he opened my gift of a dressing gown I had made for him. He cherished that gown all his life. Thanks for sharing your memories with us.
This is great depiction of family tradition and heritage! Thanks L for a lens into your history esp. the details of holiday times! We had a fire place in my NH childhood home. It was always thrilling and gratifying to throw wrapping paper into it. The flame would leap up warming w excitement - giving and receiving as you describe w loved ones is yea that warm fuzzy you touch on - mini skirt and all! Neighbors and welcomness- again that warmth!! Happy Christmas 🎄Liza Et al!!
What great families you have (three generations). You’ll have to draw a cartoon of your neighborhood party. Although you won’t wear the Christmas skirt, perhaps q pink feather boa?? Thanks for adding spirit and humor to my year. 2023 sure needed it.

Maybe I should find a sparkly skirt, you're right, Patris! But where??
Thanks for your thoughtful words. A slinky is the BEST gift, especially if new to a child.
So right! My grandson commandered (sp?) it immediately. (The day was saved by the Magic 8 Ball I’d also got him)
I’d guess we’d have to do serious thrift shopping for that skirt. It’d be worth it though..
I loved the Magic 8 ball!!
I think I love your parents.
They were wonderful, it's true.

That's so great! It's the little things, right?

We are clueless when we are young, right? So many questions gone unasked, I wish I had asked. We are lucky we had good parents...
Merry Christmas!

I have seen very few boas, but if I come across one, I will find a way to send it to you. Happy New Year, Liza.
