Happy Pride Month to all my friends in the LGBTQ community! Let’s keep protecting them from the onslaught from the Christian right by speaking up and flying the rainbow flag.
Some news….
Trump plans to open up millions of acres of the wilderness of Alaska to drilling and mining, “in some of the last remaining pristine wilderness in the country.”
Senator Lisa Murkowski is angry with Trump for many reasons, and, unlike her Republican colleagues, is not mincing words.
“It’s a challenging time right now,” she recently told a crowd at a state infrastructure conference here in the state’s largest city. “I could use nice words about it — but I don’t.”
Alaskans may well represent citizens in other states. “There’s a lot of anxiety, a lot of fear and — I think some would say by design — a lot of confusion,” said Laurie Wolf, the president of the Foraker Group. “There is no single source of information about what funding is in place or not in place, or frozen or under review. There’s no source of information, so all we have is, one by one by one, people telling us what’s happening.”
She has opposed Trump repeatedly: she voted against Hegseth’s and Patel’s nominations and the many tariff increases. Murkowsky’s vote in the Senate could be very influential as they take up Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” Trump calls her “unbelievably disloyal.”
Maine is governed by a similar strong female Senator who often votes against Trump. Janet Mills took Trump to court over policies regarding trans atheletes, and won.
Step up, strong women leaders!
The legitimacy of President Trump’s tariffs is being questioned by U.S. courts, but he is showing no signs of backing off his favorite tool. Trump plans to raise tariffs on steel and aluminum this week, his aids saying they will not be deterred by the court rulings against his actions.
I worry when Trump is not prominently in the news, as was the case today. He’s still destroying things and hurting people, he’s just laying low for the moment and it scares me.
Have a good rest of your monday, and see you tomorrow.
As soon as I saw your Petite Pride Parade, I grinned from ear to ear, and why not? I am not a member of the LGBTQ+ community that, in my 83 years so far, I've long since learned is no threat to anyone. Whom one loves is a private thing. The only ones with an "agenda" are the haters. They are miserable and want everyone else to be just as miserable. It is not a cliche for me to say that one of our dearest friends was a young man who contracted HIV and died of complications of AIDS in the late '80s. We have never stopped missing him, but his entire family shunned him as though he were a leper. LGBTQ+ is not a disease nor a lifestyle; it is just human. If you disapprove of gay sex, don't do it.
Love these joyful cartoons! And your commentary, which is to the point and so much more palatable than the usual news. Thank you for being here and for being you!
