Folksy Tim Walz is Kamala’s pick for VP!
His down-home appeal is only part of the reason why she picked him. In 2023, Mr. Walz signed a bill that codified the protections of Roe v. Wade, which had guaranteed a constitutional right to abortion, into law in his state. She also likes his implimentation as govenor of statewide child tax credit and a paid-leave program. He has served in the Army National Guard for decades, was in the US House for two decades and Govenor of Minnesotta since 2019. His early career was as a social studies teacher and football coach. He is a gun owner who supports a ban on assault weapons. Apparently, Harris also connected with Mr. Walz really well.
Walz also has a great sense of humor, in my opinion. It is at times a sharp sense of humor (like Harris), which, when going after their opponents will be good. He’s the one who coined the phrase calling the Trump/Pence team “weird.” That’s the kind of slight that is perfect for Trump— it makes him and his ideas seem out of touch, unusual, not mainstream.
I keep trying to think what Trump will call him, how he will go after him. Apparently, Walz had a DUI a few decades ago, but has since stopped drinking. That’s not enough to disqualify him—George Bush, Jr had the same. Walz did not go to law school, and, according to the Washington Post is a first for a VP pick since 1964. And he is not Ivy-League educated, which I personally find refreshing. He is a good contrast to Trump’s VP choice, someone who claims to come from “just folks,” but in fact wrote a book putting down the community he grew up in (full disclosure, I did not read Hillbilly Elegy. I have read reviews that say he is not kind to those of his background). While admirable that he rose out of poverty, I feel Vance capitalized on others’ misfortunes.
I look forward to seeing Harris and Walz together! They appear to be a balanced team with similar ethical beliefs: Harris a California attorney and tough prosecutor, Walz a Midwestern teacher at heart with government experience. Both love to laugh, and I love that.
I’m back in New York after a short time away. Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow!
Proud of our MN Gov. And today was the perfect day for my Kamala hat to arrive (“Im speaking”). I will wear it tonight to the neighborhood National Night Out gathering.
Can’t wait to see how “the donald” will undermine himself again. Maybe he’ll tag Walz “the Dancer” !!
