Great post Liza! Thank you. I wish you could be in the courtroom. Thomas Friedman is my constant go-to for getting my bearings about Israel and the Middle East. As you say always realistic but at the same time optimistic. I think of him as always having a vision toward what’s possible. I always feel steadied by how he is wise. Thanks again:-)

And thank you for being there and sending some optimism our way.

Does history need visuals? I see the point, but I’m doubtful. History is based on words, narrative, analysis, first and foremost, and visuals, though valuable, are supplementary. The problem with pictures is that they invite summary judgement, disregarding context.

Liza, It is Israel who went out of the norm by attacking the Iranian consulate in Damascus. This was a series escalation, and I suspect Netanyahu wouldn't mind conflict with Iran. Iran had to respond to this provocation or else it would look weak to its allies and enemies. Its attack, while violent and scary, was actually measured and designed to stop the escalation.

Pow, that’s a great cartoon. I feel like the image for today might be be the rare moment of T bowing his head and sighing with exhaustion when he entered the door of the courthouse. Here’s to more moments like that.

Thank your for your report, Liza. I head that an attack was likely, but I don't actually have friends or relatives in Israel (that I know of), and did not feel a personal stake, so I was not following it. Your comments seem very sensible and appropriate to me, which is why I thank you.
