I don't think his followers will read it all. I did, just to know what I'm fighting against.

I have no issue with the arrest of actual violent offenders but the TRUTH is important. And No one believes him except his hard core base. Your picture and cartoon drawing are welcome and brighten my dreary day as I get laundry done. Earlier I was screaming at the news of G7 leaders when taRUMP spoke and he is such a liar. Thinking China and Russia belong there. He is crazy

Very peaceful photo of the garden.

I immediately identified with the sentiment expressed in the cartoon. I find that select fictional realities are useful for brief visits.

With regard to Trump's tweet above, I just came across this video by Brian Tyler Cohen:

BTW, No Kings organizers claim to that 5 million protestors turned out on Saturday. That's about 3% of voters who were visibly indignant. There are a lot of reasons people don't show up to protests, and one I've heard often is fear: fear of violence during the protest, fear of retribution afterwards, and probably fear of their image on the streets being used against them in the future (job applications, etc.). I'm guessing the ratio of the number of non-protesting people who passionately agree with No Kings, to the number of people who actually showed up is easily 3 to 1, based on a sampling of my immediate circle (3 of my circle attended, another 10 or so are equally outraged but didn't attend for various reasons). This would translate into 12% of voters (9% who didn't participate plus the 3% who did) who are emotionally engaged and outraged by what's going on. That's not enough to enact massive, immediate change, but the energy is rising. I feel I saw more young people at this protest than in the last ones, and the energy level was very high.

To the extent you can, I advise everyone to contribute in some way: (1) emails, calls, letters to your representatives and to representatives from other states, and to the Supreme Court justices. (2) show up a protests. (3) volunteer to work as an election official at your next election (primaries or full election). (4) Keep posting support for Liz and others online. (5) Post comments on conventional media and social media. If you have a WaPo subscription, you can post comments there; Financial Times also accepts posts. I think NYT has occasionally allowed posts. (6) Ask your neighbors why they support Trump. I tend to want to tell them my opinion, but the basic principle is to first "seek to understand". Once you know what motivates them, you can speak directly to THEIR interests rather than your own (which may not concern them).

I’ve started ready “cozy fantasy” and “cozy murders” . Nothing heart pounding.

I love to read, but I can’t take the drama right now with all this going on.

I called my US Senator Moreno (VERY MAGA from Ohio) after he lied and said the Minnesota shooter was an extreme leftist. I told him I was ashamed he represented my state and will not tolerate him lying. I said it in my sternest “mom voice” on the recorder.

I’m sure he’s shaking!!!

He is stopping ICE from picking up migrantst in the fields of CA, hotel workers, and eatery workers. Gotta save the cheap labor. This means ICE will go to more schools and apartments in LA.

I’m with you Liza—my anxiety is high—I can’t even read through most of the Substack feeds I receive.

He wants us “my people” to sit up at attention when he speaks, just like N Korea’s Kim Jong Um’s people. His use of “Inner Cities” which is now only a derogatory term for poor areas dominated by people of color, gives MAGA permission to use that charged word to mask (they think!) their hatred and racism. It’s too much…🤯

Trump’s tweet was too long for me to spend time on. So I think someone other than Trump is writing for him including the short words on his teleprompter. How dumb are the Republicans in Congress to let this stuff go on? Quotes from spectators at the parade that were printed in newspapers were unbelievable. While there were 5 million people nationwide, others went to baseball and softball games, weddings, camps, and other summer places, all of whom are supportive protesters in their own ways.

Katy, TX contributed 2,000 to the count. Had a full dozen Trump supporters: 5 across the street from the rally point, one mute masked one with a sign, and three vehicles with Trump signs.

Sweet picture, Liza, a tiny spot of pink and green in the concrete jungle, a shining sign of hope. It's estimated that between 4M and 6M of us turned out yesterday to say No to da "king." His parade seems to have been an incredible bust. He looked permanently gaseously grim except when he was falling asleep. I am a veteran who instantly spotted the delightful fact that the troops were deliberately phoning it in, a mini-mutiny to the five-time draft dodger who only ran for president again in the desperate hope he could stay out of prison. Maybe yesterday was a tipping point. It's too early to tell, and the vipers are all still there and poisonous as ever, but even I, the born pessimist, perhaps see the tiniest spark of a match at the end of the tunnel.
