So sad about Andy Borowitz. He was always one of my very favorite columnists and could always be counted on for a great read. Same goes for you, Liza. I posted your lovely giraffe cartoon on my FB page (giving you credit, of course!) and got a plethora of 'loves'. So even though the NY'er didn't buy it, you have made lots of people happy out here by sharing it!

Thank you, Sandy! I really really appreciate all of you here, you make this time so much easier. ❤️

I was astonished to see a few comments about Borowitz from right wing sources that completely misunderstood the difference between humor and comedy. Borowitz was a humorist, not a stand up comic. One was the NY Post (so garbage in garbage out). While I suggest not getting too sad re Borowitz - I assume he was be fine, I understand the reaction. He was eminently readable.

Oh yes, he will be very fine. For me it's a sign that stuff is happening with The New Yorker that is out of my control!

It is a tough business. When Tina Brown took over there was a notion that their subscribers were old and dying off. I subscribe now and feel that the New Yorker desperately wants to be meaningful... For me it is, but I see it becoming a bit more like the Atlantic. So less humor, less fiction.

I guess they are trying to stay afloat, but we all need humor!

When I heard about the firing, I ate a whole package of gingerbread men. I probably would have eaten it any way. But the Borowitz episode made a good excuse. Still, methinks he's a humorist with resilience. And I hope he'll resurface somewhere soon. Meanwhile, we love ya. And we rely on you to keep us smiling. Go pet the new furbaby and you'll feel better in a wink.

Andy will be fine, but I am sure he appreciates your sacrifice of eating all those cookies. Thank you for being here, Allia, you all are the best and make me feel appreciated.

Andy has seen me through some rough times, and Liza, you’re doing that for us, too. Thanks for your recommendation of HCR’s book. I’m reading my hard copy (it’s wonderful!) and I’m putting myself on the waitlist for my local library’s audiobook. Several people, including you, have praised it. I want to hear her words in her own voice.

Deep appreciation for you opening up and offering your views your heart. Real thnx L

I will miss Borowitz as well. His disappearance reminds me to see the New Yorker as having wondrous illustrations, fantastic articles/authors--and some Politics...." Always build community that cares and connects.

I love Heather Cox Richardson. I haven't read her book yet, but it's on my kindle and ready. I do read her column almost every day. We are definitely on the edge of potential disaster. I hope that we, as a country, can make the right choices to right our ship.

Thanks for all you do. I am amazed and alarmed by the Borowitz news, but it t must admit that I have had to cancel my 50-year subscription. Maybe I am not alone. Tough times.

We are very, very upset about the firing of Andy Borowitz, too. We're just two people out here who have been New Yorker subscribers for ...oh, let's say about 40 years. He has a unique vision and voice and we cannot understand this decision. Please pass this on if it would help in any way. Thank you for your wonderful work.

Thank you. I did write him the other day, he is in conversation with Substack folks so we'll see. I know he will be fine, so many like his humor and he is the co-author of a very successful sit-com.

Who would have thought red, yellow & blue would make white! Loved the clip. 🙏 LIza. These are indeed troubling times; humour was an early casualty. I recall Barry Humphries (AKA Dame Edna) complaining the political correctness would be the death of satire in the 1990s. Like all difficult times, we'll move through it successfully if we keep in mind that there'll be no going back.
