Wow Ruth Marcus now, too. Good for her. I think “I needed that” also applies to the joy of seeing people stand up and say, “not today.”

Liza, your drawing of Trump dumping out employees should be on the cover of the New Yorker. So little good news these days. Too bad if you are pro-Palestinian, because Trump and others can't see the difference between being in support of Palestinians and somehow being pro-terrorist. Keep up the fight with your pen and your words.

Romping in the grass is my solution. Thanks Liza. I’m reading Forest Bathing, the Rejuvenating Practice of Shinrun Yoku by Hector Garcia and Frances Miralles. It works!

Oh, Joan, how I love that book and that concept overall. Rebuilding my health so I can not just walk but hike close to my home where I’m on pavement (ticks in the grass) but in the forest, and before my husband’s stroke, that daily hike had me in the best shape I’ve been in in years. And I know it wasn’t just the physical activity. It was holistic. Yes yes yes, the romping of the bunny in the grass! And Tom Cleaver of TCinLA announced today he’s joining the club, will post a kitty photo daily, tip o’ the hat to Joyce Vance‘s chicken pix and others. A little balance, yes? Liza‘s Substack is one of my favorites! Always uplifting even if she says there’s no good news today… She brought some. She lifts our spirits. (BTW - my maiden name is Hamilton… Maybe we’re related🥰)

I'm growing my own forest. My house is on three acres that was almost all grass when I bought it. I've planted evergreen trees inside of the fence that goes all the way around my property, they will eventually give me more privacy. My goal is for the rest of it to be trees, shrubs and ground cover, with some paths winding through it. Lots of work, but it's improving my mental health by doing it!

"Them's that pays the piper, gits to call da tunes," comes to mind. The Oligarchs "own" the media and we will find a dramatic surge to "pay the piper." Kiss off morals, ethics, care, kindness, altruism, goodness. I enjoyed the "roll in the grass." Me? I stay sane, I am making peanut brittle... with chocolate and pistachios, a Turkish confection. I'll virtually and spiritually send you some. Do something kind and wonderful for yourself and others today. Blessings from Montana.

I remain hopeful in the sense that more and more of our citizens are standing up and speaking out, and Trump seems disturbed and panicky. It may be the end of the Washington Post, which is very sad. However, it is also a time where a new form of highly independent media is rising, including "Seeing Things!" So, while "power sloshing around", as Heather Cox Richardson says, is really scary because of the uncertainty it creates, it also means there is an opening for creating a better country if we can get through it. And I think we can, together! Thanks Liza! Love your art!

Yes. It's been a terrible day. You caught most of it. I'm sure more will come before the evening news. And, I agree, your drawing should be on the cover of the next New Yorker.

We must stand for truth and be bold in our personal ways to be heard, seen and reasoned voices to stop this carnage. Perhaps the "red" states - as the voters awaken to their livelihoods and budgets threatened as well as social security - will unite with other voters/citizens in other states to extinguish the flames of hatred, retaliation, the aspirations of a crazed man (men) and the cowardice of elected officials. I will forever hold the Supreme Court responsible.

I think we just have to keep working toward it, you know? Call your representatives everyday (I rely on Chop Wood, Carry Water on Substack for help with this), get involved with groups organizing peaceful protests (Heather Cox Richardson recommends Red, Wine and Blue; I have relied on Indivisible mostly so far), go to town halls. I am retired now, and I think us retirees that have the time and the means should participate as fully as we can manage. We owe it to the next generation--it's our time to serve!

I understand “personal liberties and free markets” to mean that corruption is a form of free speech; in the Citizens United way, that corporations are people. I would not be surprised to see this claim before a friendly SCOTUS by-and-by.

Wow. What a powerful drawing. I get more exercise these days shaking my head than I do at aerobics. This says it all. I am still in a fog as to how we got here....especially when the polls (which I normally don't put much confidence in) kept reporting the orange man and Kamala neck and neck. Here I go shaking my head again. xoxo
