How do you handle summertime with your loved ones? Do you pressure them to throw the beach ball? Or just let them be?
This cartoon was drawn a few years ago, and was in the book I drew with my husband, New Yorker cartoonist Michael Maslin called Cartoon Marriage. We have been happily married for 33 years, but we don’t do beaches together….except maybe walking along them in the winter—Michael does not do heat.
So we don’t do beaches, but I would indeed ask him to throw a ball. I don’t agree with this woman that it’s ever too late to do anything with anyone. What do you think?
Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone, I hope you enjoy it. I am in New Jersey—just got here— and am sitting in my car waiting for the rest of my family meet me here at the bay near Toms River. It’s a family tradition and I just love it. Maybe I’ll draw something for you tomorrow!
Are you heading for Sedge?
Great cartoon and photos. The last three cartoons you have posted have captured the feelings of a waning summer beautifully. It's made me think of how the feelings that come with the seasons changing evolve as the seasons of life evolve.
I do summer pretty much letting everybody "do their thing" and it usually works out well with a good balance of spending time with loved ones and getting in some relaxation time. Low pressure...
I happened on your Instagram reel earlier today, it looked like you were on the move, beautiful blues skies and as someone who grew up in Toms River I thought ,"I'll bet that is the Seaside Bridge Liza is driving over".
I recall you doing some live drawing from the Island last year. It's a beautiful spot and from what I remember it holds special memories from times spent with family and loved ones over the years. Enjoy!
Wishing a happy and peaceful Labor Day weekend to all.
