Once introduced to deconstructed lasagna, I've never made another old school layered lasagna.

I’d eat it, no doubt.

Me too

I bet it was delicious. And anyway it’s the journey, not the destination. At least it’s what I tell my husband when I attempt his mom’s recipes...

I guess that's what I discovered! Lasagna metaphor for today....

Meant to also say “all lasagna is great lasagna”. Food is not only love, it’s art.

Happy New Year, Liza! Mmm I love lasagna... Your cartoon simultaneously made me laugh out loud and get hungry. If you’ll forgive me, I was curious to see what the scene would look like in 3D, so I tried this wacky experiment with Dall-E: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f6gRDAG5ahmsLsZsxKJC4WzuI5cl4jx8/view?usp=drivesdk

Not exactly. Interestingly, I did try uploading the image first and it recognized it as a copyrighted work and refused to use it, so kudos to them for that (although I’m curious how it recognized it as a copyrighted work, just from a technical stand point of how it knew).

That being said it’s kind of easy to get around that (apologies 😉) by simply describing the image, so I said to Dall-E:

“Ok, ignore the drawing. Please make a photorealistic image of a woman who has built a giant lasagna tower in her New York kitchen while her husband is sitting in the living room and reading the newspaper.”

And it did a pretty good job but it needed some tweaks, so it took me about ten iterations to get to the final image you saw, probably around 30 minutes of work total.

Happy to give you a demo at some point if you’d like to see how it works. It might be an interesting option for illustrations for you documentary (on that front, fyi, the video AI systems have just recently crossed over into what I would consider ready for prime time, they’ve gotten quite good).

None of the many cooks I know are EVER satisfied with the food they make. Always a bit of a crap shoot. Enjoy what is probably a very good meal.

Happy New Year, Liza! I love your lasagna drawing. The caption, as well as the towering lasagna, are so reminiscent of my grandchildren's squeals of delight when they want me to see their Lincoln Log or block creations before they tumble to the floor. Thanks for reminding me that we all have that delightful and unselfconscious being within.

Happy New Year, Jean! Yes, I was looking to evoke the excitement of a child making something. So glad it brought memories for you!!

Love this cartoon. I had a good laugh over it. I never use a recipe and each lasagna I make turns out differently, which reminds me of a story. I interviewed Ray Charles once after a concert (and after I snuck his favorite gin into his dressing room ... Bols Gin...). His handlers said I could ask him one question only. I said "What makes your music so universal?" He said, "It's because I never give the same performance twice. If you came tomorrow night, you'd see me doing things differently." Then, the Raylettes and his bodyguards swooped him away into his travel bus, which segues me back to the lasagna....I never make it the same way twice. LOL.

What a great story, Allia! Not to mention WOW you meat Ray Charles! I guess the downside is that sometimes the performance or the lasagna will not be fantastic. But when it is, it is very unique!

I was supposed to have an interview, but they cancelled all press. I was only allowed one question because I bought him the gin, and I almost panicked because I had a notebook full of questions and didn't know what to ask him. I finally choose that one. I have him on tape though. Some day we can listen to it together. I love lasagna and I loved the drawing.
