Let me vent for a minute. I can get very cynical, then have to reel myself back in to some measure of hopefulness.
That George Santos lied his way into being elected to Congress I find fascinating and incredibly infurating. What is it about our electorate, that we can be so duped? This Santos guy is an extreme example, but I think an unfortunate number of members of the House of Representatives are either inept, corrupt and or crazy. Some (such as Trump) might even say bravo to him, that he was able to get this far. He worked the system, he did it his way.
As the NYTimes puts it, “his resume may be largely fiction.”
Santos admits to embellishing his resume, and claims that others have done it. That may be true, but not to this extent. He also is blaming his “embellishments” on the media elite, according to Rolling Stone, that the only way he could get elected is if he made stuff up.
Is this part of “American independent spirit,” this notion of I’m gonna do it my way and to hell with you? We as a country appear to have multiple personalities, from generous to a fault to narcissitic. From gun-toting libertarians to pot smoking pacifists to pure-bred capitalists— because we are such a huge country, our citizenary runs the gamit. But that’s not an excuse.
I used to blame everything on Reagan, and still do, but I know this goes back further than the 1980’s. Way further. But right at the moment, I think we’re in a period of pathalogical lying, lying to get what you want because you think you deserve it. Nobody deserves anything, except freedom. And that does not mean freedom to run over others.
We have to stop it dead in its tracks. It will bring us down. Our leadership should be the cream of the crop.
Santos should not be seated in Congress.
I agree. The lying is so out of line with integrity of any sort
The silence of the Republicans on this and other falsehoods has been and remains bizarre.
