Perhaps this will betray my optimistic nature, but here goes. I am surprised at the apparent gain in fundraising of the Trump campaign over the Biden campaign. It appears to be a battle of the billionaires. Trump just snagged 50 million from a Mellon banking heir, and Biden received a donation of 20 million from Michael Bloomberg. Trump is seen as pro-corporation, so it’s no surprise: if they give him money, he will do what they want (and he will, you know that). Biden is more of a man who tries to do the right thing, and while he has probably done things to help corporations over the years, he is not in their pocket. And what’s even more mind-boggling is that this surge is cash for Trump is fueled by his convictions. The surge is from billionaires who want him to do their bidding, and from uniformed citizens who also want the same. But unbeknownst to them, they won’t get any such help from Trump; the billionaires will.
Trump may momentarily have the cash advantage, recent polls indicate that Biden is taking the vote lead over Trump a little bit.
Last night on CNN, Robbie Mook, former Hillary Clinton campaign manager, said something insightful. It’s rather obvious, but it is something that is not said enough. Trump was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Biden is from a working class family. Why doesn’t the Biden campaign use that stark contrast? I think it would resonate with many working class and perhaps Black voters who already dislike Trump but are not sure about Joe.
To be not sure about Joe just boggles my mind.
In other news, the Supreme Court just upheld a ban on people who have domestic violence restraining orders. Finally a bit of good news from the high court.
Louisiana announced that schools in that state must post the Ten Commandments in their buildings. Trump has endorsed this blatent violation of the seperation of church and state. Trump also today said on day one of his presidency, he would ban trans-supportive schools.
I did this drawing a few years ago, not sure when. But it still applies. It’s all about money for those two.
I hope you are having a fine Friday and not too hot a one. See you tomorrow!
I'm sure I'm not the only one around here who remembers Ann Richards of Texas saying of George H.W. Bush that he was born with a silver foot in his mouth. It's derivative but not exactly inexact to say that Donald Trump was born with TWO silver feet in his mouth (one of which he inherited, and one of which he commissioned from Latino artisans but never paid for). It helps explain his incoherence, at least.
I have been giving to the Biden campaign every chance I can. I don't have millions to spare, but I give what I can. I would love (and I hope they do this) Biden to ask the orange man if he can recite the Ten Commandments. Paraphrased: Love God above all . Nope, he loves himself above all, No false gods. Nope. The orange man worships money. No false witness. Nope. Everyone gets lied about. No adultery. Ah, nope. I could go on, but you get the drift. Yikes. Clever cartoon; love it. xox
