One thing more frustrating, at least to me, is having free-floating (oops! first I typed "free-gloating," but that's a whole other subject) motivation: the urge to do something but without a clue what that should be. Now that I'm an old guy (born near the end of the Truman administration), I have LOTS of motivation, but not quite so much energy -- so things are still not getting done quite the way they should. But give me a few years, and I'll have neither motivation nor energy, nor any interest. At last, I'll be content.
Just an observation and could be entirely wrong, but world events like these seem to affect the empathic, creative, intelligent, thoughtful into losing motivation but it sure motivates the cruel and ignorant. Maybe I’m wrong...
I love your three cartoons this week. An excellent cartoon for me is hitting the mark inside my brain before I have even let it register. An excellent cartoon doesn't require pondering but it tends to speak to some universal truth like the two cave men deciding to save their bodies and pride by just going in the cave and painting it - maybe showing it at a rock party with their friends implying how brave they were. It's spot on. Nice work.
There is something so tender and sweet about that mouse. I’m going to make him my touchstone as I navigate my way through these troubled times. Thank you, Liza.
You mind-melded my feelings today. As if the state of the world is not reason enough to ostrich-size yourself and never pick your head back up from the sand into today, a local librarian employee was a victim of a hit-and-run right down my block. It's enough to give you permanent ennui, sap all your creativity and motivation, so that all you want to do is eat Cherry Garcia ice cream and watch The Sopranos reruns. Still, sometimes that's what you have to do to survive.
Ms Donnelly, thank YOU for being here and helping put this craziness in perspective. I like the idea of being one’s own best friend. Thank you for that thought.
Excellent advice. 🙏🏼
And my cartoon newsletter from the NY-er just dropped into my inbox, and the very first one is by Michael Maslin! 👍🏼🎃
Yes, a rare case of us being in the same issue at the same time. And now, back-to-back!

😆😂🤣 Right behind you, my friend!
Wow this completely nailed my feelings today. With the added factors that it’s Monday and it’s rainy.
Right? Maybe it's the weather! Hope your film is progressing to your liking, PHilip!
First, when did you guys meet our cat?
Speaking of back to. back, thoughts on Motivation/ inspiration - one and the same? Or a chicken/the egg circle?
Oh, oh. Well THAT's motivating.

Ditto to what Chuck said. With the events in Ukraine and the Middle East, I’m already where he will be in a few years.
The first thought of the cat was his corpulent body. The mouse was uninteresting to him and below his grade of home-fed meals.

Many thanks. I agree the best cartoons are timeless and universal somehow. I aim for that!
I forgot to mention the House of Reps clown car in D.C. and the embarrassing Trump legal shows in four U.S. jurisdictions.
I think the cat is empathetic and that your theme is spot on. Congratulations on being featured this week in the NYer!
Thanks, D.L.!

Aw thank you, Linda.

Oh gosh how sad, Allia.

Thank you, Doug.
This just settles in . No Dale Carnegie or Zig Ziglar needed.🙏
