Careful, dear Liza. I believe Zelinsky already knows Elon, from using his war systems. We don't know what they talked about. This is how rumors get started.

I totally believe media sources and lack of education for critical thinking are at the root of our political ills. I am going to research how other countries navigate the media bias crisis. I’m curious as to why we’ve evolved into a 2 party system instead of a coalition government like the Scandinavian countries. I guess that is a question for HCR.

You are relieving some of my panic in reaction to how much threat I feel coming very soon. If we stop noticing and observing events and narratives that are disturbing, then bad things will necessarily occur. My son believes that all transgender people will be in someone's bullseye, and there are enough disturbing events and artifacts to suggest this. Thanks for providing me with a little space.

I am no conspiracy nut (Nut? maybe. Conspiracy nut? No.) Does anything think there was some kind of way the orange man could have fixed the votes technology-wise? The polls said it was so close, and this outcome certainly wasn't "so close." Maybe I still can't believe that many people voted for evil. I may be naive, and probably am. *sigh.*

Swing over to Taylor Lorenz' SubStack 'User Mag'; today she published a great article on the impact of social media on the election.

I live in a fairly Blue area of Florida: Orlando. Among the few Trump folks I know, I am astonished at the “Buyer’s Remorse” which is now being heard. “I didn’t know WE end up paying the tariffs.” “MY teaching position will be eliminated?” “All the crop pickers are LEAVING … ?” "My son is gay, should I worry?" Were they not paying attention to anything but FOX? Does it boil down to education? MSM is guilty of dereliction. and all the "social media" just broadcast the lies 24/7. There are a lot of pissed off people as reality begins to take hold, and it hasn't really started. A teaching time to maybe let people learn about misinformation and manipulation. But at what cost?

Oh, wait....just wait.....sounds like those people just didn't "get" how dangerous and destructive he is and will be...not just to our country, but the whole world order. They will be tearing their hair out.

Somewhat on topic. i just wrote elsewhere, "Yup, all we have is us and that has to include the underinformed, the undereducated, the brainwashed, the folks who don't have the ability to process truth when they hear it, and none of those should not be lumped as an evil 'they'.

The communication challenge seems to me to be a 2-way problem.

Figuring out how to get the truth to those who don’t seek it out on their own is only one of the challenges. The other - more important - challenge is to LISTEN to those folks and HEAR their true concerns … their truth!

I think there’s a lot to learn from listening. We tend to think they are foolish for voting for candidates who in office will enact policy that’s against the voters’ interest.

Why would voters not vote in their best interests? “Telling” them they are doing so - in today’s disinformation environment - only confirms their predisposition to mistrust “liberal elites.”

Genuine interest in the roots of this puzzle would be very helpful in pulling out of the dystopia we seem to be heading for.

We mistook for a landslide the enthusiasm we saw in what turned out to be a minority of the electorate. We really need to understand the puzzling demographics of Trump’s win.

I agree that your comment about Zelinsky sounds realistic. I've cut way, way down on which news sources I use. Heather Cox Richardson is always trustworthy. So is Joyce Vance. Associated Press seems reliable. Newspapers - HA HA! I work for a small online media outlet and at least WE do our very best to verify everything prior to publication. It takes work. People are so caught up in social media and don't take time to check where their "information" actually came from. Even my Ph.D level boyfriend does that. He tells me something from FB or elsewhere and I have to ask what the source was. Drives me nuts. Bots and trolls everywhere and people just hit "share". Enough! It is the weekend, I'm going to have brunch by the sea and listen to the waves.

Good idea, about how wrong it is to think that everything is horribly bad. Other than groceries costing more...(does that really have anything to do with who is president?) I must remember to draw in the smell of alfalfa and evergreen needles, embrace the family, encourage brilliance and creativity, and nuzzle the fur on my cat's head. And be vigilant and wise, as well.
