It was good to hear that CNN finally decided to fire Don Lemon. I was annoyed when they didn’t right away in February after he made a sexist remark about women and aging, doubling down when his Morning Show co-star challenged him. Instead of firing him CNN sent Lemon to counseling. Apparently he has made other problematic statements off-air, and recently CNN was losing viewers of their Morning Show because of him—it’s actually encouraging that just maybe, people have principles.
I need to do another ageism cartoon. It’s just horrible for women in our culture.
What might be bigger news is that Fox News fired Tucker Carlson, perhaps due to litigation. I’m hoping that it will lessen Fox’s grip on the GOP, but I fear Trump and his followers will migrate elsewhere, and maybe already have, in order to spread lies and misinformation.
How does any of this rise to a cartoon, you may ask? Well, the news reportage kept saying these media outlets were “parting ways” with their anchors. That’s a funny phrase that seems to avoid stating the obvious that these men were fired. I will play with that tonight for my batch of cartoons for The New Yorker, due tomorrow.
I’ve stopped watching TV news unless there is a crisis or an election. Pundits are scary, and not really helpful in the long run.
Tomorrow, I am heading down to the Manhattan Courthouse to try to get into the trial of E. Jean Carroll vs Donald Trump on rape charges. If I can get in, I will live draw what I see. Stay tuned.
Love everything you do, Liza!
Especially loving the "pundits" cartoon. I think we all have pundits under our beds, different ones depending on race, gender, religion, national origin and, of course, party affiliation. Mine is still my 9th grade Latin teacher, who was a nun who missed her calling in the military. She could both pontificate and throw a punch.
