Given the collapse of faith in institutions and the cynicism bred thereby, convicting Trump of this or that crime will only make things worse. I’m sorry to say that, but there’s no point in kidding ourselves. America’s basic national unity has been shattered and our debased political class seems incapable of leading us to a better place.
