I am totally perplexed by the situation our country is in now. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wonder if Mitch McConnell and the other Republican senators now realize how foolish it was to refuse to impeach Trump and prevent him from running again.
Sadly, nothing McConnell has ever done or said leads me to believe he has even a tiny bit of regret for anything he's done; he's been fairly gleeful (or at least disdainful) when I've seen him respond to questions on any of it.
I just read that McConnell said that there will be no recess appointments. It should be interesting to see how that plays out. I hope it doesn’t mean he’s planning to confirm all of Trump’s appointees.
Well all I can say about Goldstein is he didn’t work out in 2000 and we have a completely imploded the middle east as a result. Every building and hospital and person killed has added to the climate crisis that was big in 2000. Now we are out of control and the blowing up of things have continued at a great pace.
I don’t think Thomas Goldstein’s opinion should be taken or trusted one iota.
My fear is we have to be vigilant, and we need truthful outlets, like yours, to get our news. But some of us are so gob smacked by what has happened, that we're in a state of shock, disbelief, and despair, which is where the right wants us. I am trying to regroup, unplug, and then plug back in with some fresh insight and strength. We are all with you in trying to sort things out for ourselves, others, and actually, the whole world. I'm still trying to figure out how it could have been suggested among the media that the election was so very close, and yet, the truth is, it wasn't.
Thank for both your news commentary and the focused, yet calm analysis.
I am reading, 'Cascades: How to Create a Movement that Drives Transformational Change', by Greg Satell, published in 2019. Greg has spent most of the last quarter century and most of his adult life living in eastern Europe. His observations on politics and revolutionary actors in the early 21st century, easily map onto the current US political crisis. I recommend reading it as a preparatory manual for ways we can respond to potential events in our homeland. Be prepared and stay safe; know how to face force with non-violent acts.
I was so relieved to learn that Roxanne Gay has debunked all that fake news about minor children receiving “gender-affirming care,” i.e. irreversible drug therapies and surgeries that foreclose for them any possibility of a normal sex life. And I suppose it’s also untrue that certain states—California and Minnesota come to mind—have declared themselves to the “trans sanctuary states” where minor children can receive “gender-affirming care” even if their parents object. Good to know! It was disturbing to think that such barbarities were being perpetrated in our country. Oh, and it was also a relief to learn that there’s no such thing as partial-birth abortion. What kind of a country would this be if there were people who actually argued that a baby born alive due to a botched abortion could nevertheless be done to death?
We need the same kind of access that FOX has to the public but certainly not the lies no matter who they favor. FOX News is included with every internet bundle offered. And it is free. Poor people can only afford the basic Chanel’s and the free stuff. If the only news they can afford is FOX, then they will watch it. We need a FOX type station with the free access of FOX but without the lies. Also, where is the truth-telling talk radio station? The right has an abundance of “Ruth Limbaugh” wannabes. And again, it is accessible to all levels of society for free.
Nope; we need to hold him accountable, if for no other reason than to restore our faith in our justice system and the rule of law. Without that, how can we be a democracy? I see no reason to take the high road, as we always do, and just let them run amuck. They would never back off. We are so conditioned to try and do the right thing for the country, but this is not a level playing field. They know we will back down, and that's exactly why we need to stand firm.
Sorry Liza, I am still angry, and frankly tired of warning the people who support him that they will be the most disadvantaged by him. I will be fine, they won't, and I have lost the will to keep fighting for those who do not want it. I have my head in the sand and will sit this out. I simply do not want to know what I already know is coming.
Yes, T needs to be held accountable. I watched part of an interview with Laurence Tribe today in which he talked about the importance of those courts proceeding. And, he said, though no one is going to put T in jail, he could at least be fined. A lot.
It boggles my mind that people believe the kids are operated upon while at school! The school nurse can’t even give Tylenol without the parent’s written permission.
And would someone please explain how there is abortion after birth? Abortion is one thing, birth is another. Who came up with this nonsense?
We've heard that song before: for the good of the country, let bygones be bygones. So Ford pardoned Nixon, and the divide grew and grew and grew.
Thanks for the Roxane Gay link. That's one reason for not cancelling my (admittedly student and cheap) subscription to the NYT. And they have done some deep dives into the WHY of Hamas without approving of them. There's a big difference between understanding and condoning, and way too many people can't make the distinction.

hmmm, quoting Al Gore's 2000 attorney sheds a little light on why Gore gave up so easily, prior to the Supreme Court stealing it outright.
Exactly
I agree. Hold him accountable.

I am happy for the recommendation! Def will look it up. Thank you
Not to worry. Clouds are just water vapor, after all.

Guilty is guilty. That he gets the cake and eats it, too, without paying, and by trying to burn down the building, as well, doesn't fly.
unfortunately, all I see is dark clouds now, thanks for perspective.

Absolutely
I remember an earlier “ for the good of the country … “ and the supremes installed George Bush. Arguably one of the worst presidents after Trump.
