On my last day in Paris, I snapped this photo of a wonderful little spirit patiently waiting for his/her companion who was shopping in the small store. I saw more dogs this time around in Paris—last time I was there was before the pandemic.
Reminder, yesterday I mentioned the next nationwide protests— they will be on June 14th. The organizers have titled it No Kings, genius title. I think it’s important that these are happening all across the country in red states and blue states. They are small gatherings and they are enormous gatherings. We need to show how we feel.
Below are two videos that I wanted to share with you for inspiration and a reminder of what this fight is all about. They are from Senator Corey Booker, one of my heroes, and journalist Joy Reid, whose terrific Substack is called Joy’s House. I am proud to say Joy recommends Seeing Things on her page! They are both so passionate and spot-on.
In 2018, I drew the inspiring Nobel Laureate Fillipino American journalist and activist, Maria Ressa, when I heard her speak at the International Center for Journalists.
She is now very vocal about Trump and the frightening turn our democracy is taking, which she forsaw. She recently said the following:
“You are your most powerful at the beginning of the attacks. Every day you do not fight back, you lose just a little bit more of your rights. What rights you lose today, you will not get back. This is part of the reason why if you value your rights, you stand up for them, you hold the line because silence is complicity. Silence gives approval for it.
Thanks for being here, I hope you had as lovely a day of spring weather as I did here in NYC! See you tomorrow.
That is so right! It does seem that every day we are losing a little bit more. Hopefully we can start turning things around now and have more success in the mid-terms. The June 14th protests are important, as are all the other events that help build momentum!
And again, they are trying to come up with the most outrageous things to keep our minds from following what they are really doing. Unconscionable, stupid things like a reality show with immigrants vying for citizenship. This is truly inane and just meant to get us riled up while they do even more to steal our freedoms under cover. Oh my dawg. Hey, cute dog, says the cat lady.
