Liza, your funny drawing is egg-actly what we need (thank you) as children around the world will die because our genius leaders prefer chainsaws to human life.

The havoc from dismantling USAID . . . Mindboggling and heartbreaking.

Liza, I enjoy your cartoons and writing, especially as a counter to the troubling news, which, on a daily basis, makes me feel like I've been run over by a Tesla truck. I sent gift subscriptions to your posts to my two daughters. Carry on.

Jim

I agree with what Gawande says about US abdication of USAID and the catastrophic consequences that are sure to follow, and are happening right now. tRump & Musk have gutted our good works and good will around the world. We have become a country not to be trusted by any of our former allies. I don't think we will ever recover whatever good name we had in the world. And the deaths and grief laid at our feet for abandoning health and support measures in other countries is a shame for which we will never be forgiven.

F U N E X? S,V F Es or in this instance, No, we don't have any eggs. My mom taught me that one when I was a kid. Love the drawing. It did the trick. It made me laugh. Thanks, as always.

We are in the grip of sociopaths.

That said was at the market this afternoon. Watched one young man approach the eggs as if it were a war zone, slowly and as if one was about to hatch..or explode..

That's a funny image, someone approaching the egg aisle....fearfully....

I couldn’t help watching him, much younger than I (of course, who isn’t?) and I almost smiled at him when he caught my eye but didn’t want him embarrassed.

It also struck me that I could afford them but clearly remember when we couldn’t have..

Yes!! So perfect! I used to raise chickens here in Montana where we have lots of ranch henhouses...where folks have immediately raised their prices. Keynesian-Lutnik economics...

your cartoons lighten my day! saw on the news yesterday- a protest at the DOJ-an elderly man, obviously a vet, had a sign reading " Congress-hold the line, don't give up!". we should all take this as our banner!

Love the cartoon! Can't listen to the podcast - too upsetting. Yes, people will and are already dying at the hands of this President.

Liza, what was it that you disagreed with?

Expand full comment

That our country's reputation has been changed forever, that other countries won't trust the US. I think they will, they understand it's one man.

Liza, I pray that you are right. But, after all, a large percentage of our population voted the orange turd back into office. And other countries see that, and now they know that there are a lot of American citizens who are really stupid and gullible. So really, it's not just one man. He wouldn't be doing what he's doing if he had lost the election. But then again, we would probably be in a civil war now if he had lost.

Nice chuckle-worthy cartoon; thanks!

I listened to the interview thru to the end and agree with Gawande. The only caveat I would add is that, possibly, a generation+ from now, things could change again--we clearly don't learn from history and the clock does swing. However, I believe we are in for a decades long decline -- in all respects -- but it's coming fast, so...

Schumer, et al.'s debacle took the last bit of wind from my sails. Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but that's where I am right now.
