I'm totally with on snow; it's magical: quiet, mesmerizing. I can stare for hours at snow falling. Love the drawing and caption... its odd that we're not talking more about Trump's mental deterioration.

It's true, everyone is focussed on Biden's age, but Trump I am sure is biologically older than Biden. He is so not fit in so many ways, and Biden is!

Love, love , LOVE the Racism drawing. Things have changed a lot since the '50s and '60s when I was a tyke. Though even back then there was never any racist talk in my family, or in my schools. Still, there was plenty on the news, especially in the Boston area where I lived, especially during the busing problems. I was very ashamed of my neighbors 15 or 20 miles away, who came across as bad as any Southern rednecks would. I can't claim to have always been on the side of justice. I was sort of, and Jack and Bobby Kennedy, though somewhat belatedly, made us proud, especially "us" Roman Catholics, as my family was, and I was myself until I crawled out from under. I didn't even realize I grew up in a structurally racist town (Braintree, also the home town of John Adams, who wrote the Massachusetts constitution that outlawed slavery, the first in the country to do so). But when I lived there, then a town of about 35,000 people, there were only 4 black families. So I had almost no experience of black people, not until I got a job in a Boston insurance company where there were a lot of black people working. I was pleased that they were just like everyone else -- young, reasonably well-educated, and knowledgeable in their jobs. I was pleased that our daughter went to public school in a neighboring town that was about one-third Jewish, one-third black, and one-third other (mostly white). I was present in the classroom one holiday season, when one girl wrote a Chinese holiday greeting on the board, translating an English one already there, and another girl said "I can do that in Hindi," and someone else did it in Hebrew. I was pleased and proud of my little town, though not of my own limited linguistic skills. We're in another racially mixed town at the other end of the state now, and a neighbor and I started an anti-racist non-profit a couple of years ago. It's taking longer than I hoped, but we've done some bits of good along the way so far. A few drops in the ocean.

I love your snowsuit cartoon! I love seeing the snow, I don't like to be in it unless and I am doing something strenuous and fun, like snow shoeing.

Your cartoon about Trump is right on the money. He is so toxic and frightening. I wish the news would give us more information about what Biden (and Harris) has achieved and less free advertising for the Trump cesspool.

Thanks! Yes, Trump sucks the air out of the room. I hope the media has learned not to cover his nonsense just because he is a trainwreck.

I remember the dressing of 2 kids in Toronto for going outside in the depths of winter, and then my daughter saying. Mom, I need to go to the bathroom. . . . The cartoon is beyond brilliant!

Love snow and I also don’t do snow activities unless you mean hookey-bobbing (old school chrome numbers, can’t do that now 😔) shoveling your car out of a plowdrift... well, you get the idea... I grew up in Minnesota before the Great Climate Change so we’d have snow by Halloween, all through April... anyway, I’ve never been stuck inside a NYC apartment with anyone during a blizzard, but it is on my bucket list... I hope I’m not tooooooo late...

ANY Republican needs to be kept from the Oval Office, not just Trump! They all pledge their support for him if nominated whicj disqualifies all of them! MY GOD!!! Maybe a younger Republican won’t be so horrible, but this current crop needs to be vanquished from any and all public offices first. They need to feel a lot of political and career pain for their cowardice before anything will change. Any win for any of them is a win for Trump as it is not just one man; it is a whole ideology that is taking hold. Liz Cheney is wrong; he did not act alone, it is not just about him... it is also her but she hopes we don’t notice.

I agree, I don't want a Republican in office, but I don't think in general the GOP wants a dictatorship. Which is what Trump wants (maybe Ramaswami and DeSantis want that, too). But to be honest, if a moderate Republican won over Trump, I would be relieved. Maybe I'm not seeing clearly enough, just scared.

I’m writing these days mostly from a SW Ohio perspective, having been stuck here since the pandemic (other home is Kingston, NY...long story) so I’m steeped in what could fairly be characterized as “moderate Republican” land. The media calls Ohio deep red, but it is far from that as evidenced by the latest state-wide vote on abortion (two votes!) as well as the two votes prior on anti-gerrymandering (70%+!!) so the people here are deeply purple to lean blue. The STATEHOUSE, though is deep Red. If that don’t show dictator tendencies, I’m not sure what does.

The GOP has changed radically since Gov Voinovich and Taft (even Kasich who was horrible for individual rights, including voting) ... they want complete power; they have contempt for voters and talk about Democrats as the “enemy,” not simply Americans who see issues differently. Anywhere they have not taken over the “Seven Mountains,” they are targeting. They are absolutely targeting Blue states like New York, and they get in by claiming to be “moderate.” They aren’t. As long as they have Trump acting like a heat missile steering the press and casual voters away from them, they can operate in the shadows because then opposition to them sounds unhinged! ... or is entirely ignored.

“We’re just discussing a different point of view, why you getting all worked up? Women can still have abortions, just when they miscarry on a toilet, we’ll prosecute for abuse of a corpse... we’re not prosecuting her for an abortion, though.”

“You can still protest! We’re just arresting you for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, not protesting.”

“We’re not giving away public tax dollars to religious, private and charter schools with these vouchers. We’re giving parents a choice in their child’s education. Don’t you want to preserve your parental rights??”

... and on and on and on.

Yeah, they all want a dictatorship if by that we mean absolute, unchallenged power. It’s creeping in slowly, wrapped in a Trojan Horse called “moderate.”

Because they got a taste for absolute power and they aren’t giving it up.

If the dems would only stop erasing women in language and in law they will win. I don’t think k they realize how many women feel betrayed by them and don’t know where to turn!

I wish I could remember which children's book it was, perhaps one of the Oliver Pig series. The story had the two being dressed for winter - so as soon as one was dressed the other had taken off his/her outerwear. Anyway the sage of dressing kids for winter - my mother dressed 3 kids at a time (she had 5 but the never were all three on the field at once). At the time, winter boots used sets of buckles. I still remember coming home after sledding and having lost 3 or 4 buttons.

Try taking your children on a ski vacation versus a beach vacation. We have done so and the beach trips were much easier, and I loved to ski. My 3 grew up in NE Indiana and enjoyed the snow but I got older and the cold got less inviting.

I cannot believe that tRump can maintain any level of popularity. Was it P.T. Barnum that said “There’s a sucker born every minute”.

Lots of wise comments by readers and praise to Liza for her direct Trump sketch. Your fine work steadies us and provides clarity and energy.

We'll need to prioritize the defeat of Trump even as many other problems will grow. Trump will use all weapons he can-racism, violent heterosexism, class conflict, corporate power, militarism--to hold power. The slow and long civil war the brilliant Heather Cox Richardson notes, will heat up if he wins.

And his return will also imperil regions around the globe.

Vt. just had its second major flooding storm in the past six months as well as the brazen shooting of three Palestinian youth in an outright shocking asassination attempt. My trans daughter is teaching self-defense classes. We'll need to build bridges and connect through our differences. Thnx to Liza: your care and heart and artistic wisdom lift us.

Hiya lovely! You are so kind to spend your time on us!! Yes the dems have promoted the concept of gender and prioritized it over sex. This means that they allow biological men into women’s spaces including sport and women’s prisons. If we cannot define woman as an adult human female we cannot protect women as a sex category. I won’t even go into the medical harms done to young ppl who are too young to give concent to life altering procedures which make them life long patients or the harm to brain development, bones and growth that occur with puberty blockers and hormones. Whew!!

It appears every negative thing that happens to Trump just raises more money and poll numbers for him. I'm terrified he can win this next election. He is our version of Hitler and we can only hope both religious and cultural minorities realize that, as well as the other educated voters. And that's just one of the reasons not to vote for him. Our democracy is at stake.

And your Mom's and snowsuits cartoon is funny and spot on as well!
