Maybe it's having been born in the middle of the Great depression and lived through everything since but I know when I do talk what I'm talking about. It might help to write things down and puzzle them over to yourself which is one way that I do stuff. Blessings
Liza, in your cartoon balloon, one of the characters could say, "You know what toots? After all our arguing, I think we're actually on the same level."
This short sequence of drawings reminded me of Jules Feiffer, both in stylistic terms (the simplicity and directness of the line drawings) and also in... philosophical terms? In the same way that much of Feiffer's work expressed social, psychological and political ideas metaphorically, so Liza's sequence says something to me metaphorically, something about communication developing between people: at first their ideas are very different, and in separate bubbles; then they begin to be more similar; and finally, they are in the same bubble, and are joined as a single line. Well done - again - Ms. Donnelly.
My thoughts on the drawing are that social media is destroying people's ability to communicate, in some ways. As for Trump's comments on Ukraine, has anyone else noticed that he uses the words "horrible" and "nasty" to describe people who disagree with him? Those are the words I use to describe Trump on a regular basis.
Love the drawings. It reminds me of trying to talk to family members or others about what MAGA and Trump, and his admin., have done, are doing, and plan to do to this country. We are not speaking the same language. One is based on facts, the other regurgitates what they want to believe, and finally, both realize that it is useless to try to talk or even understand each other. And then again, the one on the left in the speech bubble, it's as if saying things are spiraling out of control. Just look at the stock market. The other one I can imagine is Trump from behind in a dark suit, saying he has things under control. Then the next one is, ' Look, the stock market is up and down, up and down, and the other one says, 'Is it going to come around? ' Just you wait and see. Then everything flatlines or evens out! At least they are still standing, looking at each other. One can be hopeful. And Zelensky needs to stay strong. Putin and Trump get nothing!
good for you, Norway and France! and shame on Trump -once again- for his treatment of Zelensky. the drawing makes me think of phone visits with my Republican brother- we try not to let our political differences cloud (!) our relationship. not easy.
We don't know what we are saying..or believe in..anymore🫣😵💫

Makes me think of Story Corps’ One Small Step project that encourages conversations between people
My initial impression..I felt the first line, was the opening of a conversation with a lot of venting from the right person:
The second line was a beginning of a discussion over a variety of thoughts and working ideas out about the subject,
The last line was the 2 people were ready to listen and talk straight (excuse the pun) and actually understand where each is coming from..
love it! Thanks!
Yes! Thank you! I agree with your assessment!
Their conclusion, a flat line?, the discussion has ended!
Now, please be advised today is a Wednesday, not a Tuesday.
Oops! Thanks. I’m behind myself!

Yes!
Every day. In every way. Trump is giving us fits.
Bless Zelensky and the people of Ukraine.
I understand the drawing this way
1. Hey! Reply: Hey
2. Life’s crazy. Reply: Yep
3. [Nothing more to say]
So great. Love it.
If we keep trying, eventually we will find some commonality. Even if it’s as banal as the weather, It’s a place to start. Keep talking
Regarding the cartoon… the two people become aligned.
bless you liz donnelly for capturing the anguish of us all: "This kind of talk hurts my ears and my heart."
some of out allies have better ideas than our white house, bully for them.

I think it is about coming to agreement, even as that is often really messy. There is elegance and beauty in arriving there
