Your drawings and your words make me smile. Thank you! It was a really good show. The only thing that didn’t feel good was not enough time for each person in the In Memoriam. Different than previous years.
I didn’t watch and yours is the only review I’ve seen and I love it. My children now give me detailed reviews of what they’ve seen so I do have a list. And now the teenagers do (though I’m foregoing Barbie even though last June the 15 year old declared it was ‘going to be a Barbie summer’ at their house). Your drawings are always 💯🔥
What a great job you did capturing the Oscars! I saw only about half of it, but you filled me in well on the parts I missed. My wife Linda Davis and I used to host a small Oscar dinner-party every year, but stopped when we moved all the way to the eastern end of Massachusetts, where we didn't have close friends. Now we do have some, but throwing parties is a bit out of our energy league. Viewing cartoons is right in our wheelhouse house, though. So thanks, as always, Liza.
Oh, Liza! This is your most fabulous group of drawings ever!!! You captured beautifully everyone! As others have mentioned, we here in LA (not NYC) are so very proud of the best short doc award for The Last Repair Shop. The beautiful violinist, Porche Brinker, is a star here with her oh-so-bright smile and fluffy blue dress!
What a fabulous colorful array of portraits! (fyi Pacino announced Best Picture, as you wrote on the drawing but in the text it says Robert DeNiro ;-). Someday I hope to see you up on that stage!
I am a Biden fan like you but I did not like the Trump jokes. Why mention him at the Oscars, it fuels giving him additional press and his mantras of elitist Hollywood. He gets more press than the President because NO ONE can stop themselves talking about him. The best way to silence some people is to ignore them and not give them more inane complaints about everyone that is against them. He is a narcissist and loves being mentioned everywhere. I wish I could watch one live thing that he was not mentioned because i feel like I want to get away from him sometimes. And I especially love movies so I wanted it to be only about the movies. Make jokes about actors and movie stuff. Ignore the guy who is glowing that everyone is always thinking about him. Sorry for the diatribe. It drives me crazy that he is ‘fed’ so much to riff on about and get daily press because of it.
About the awards…(hahaha!) I saw most of the movies nominated for various things. I disagreed with a few wins but so goes personal preferences. I thought, by and large, the female presenters were funnier and more at ease than the male presenters and the Europeans had better acceptance speeches than the Americans. But aside from the critiques, which are kind of meaningless in the scheme of things, The Oscars were so fun to watch!
And, once again, I love the drawings. The clothing choices, beautiful and ‘what were they thinking’ and ‘wow! they can actually pull that off’ (which is how I felt about Ariana Grande) are part of the fun!
Fun, fun, fun! What a blast. Love the drawings. I need to see some more movies!
It was a great night to catch up on cinema ‘23.
Top on my list is 20 Days in Mariupol. I have not seen it, but the clips last night were compelling.

I love Jon Batiste and his vinyl (We Are) plays as part of my daily studio soundtrack (I need to get his World Mudic Radio soon) I follow him vicariously second hand through Suleika’s substack Isolation Journals https://open.substack.com/pub/theisolationjournals?r=uw76&utm_medium=ios

Whoops! Da’Vine Joy Randolph won for her performance in “The Holdovers” not “American Fiction.”

I simply love what you do with a line and a dab of paint!
The Last Repair Shop, short documentary winner, is part of the Los Angeles Unified School system. Not in NYC as you wrongly stated.
Oh dear, thank you. Stupid mistake!
The Last Repair Shop was wonderful. Note - Los Angeles not NYC.
Thanks, of course! Fixed!
What a fabulous way to re-visit the Oscars. Love the drawings and once again I am envious of your
skills at capturing the essence of your subject with such dignity and ease.
Happy belated Woman's Day.
