It is so important to cross-promote other writers who have the pulse of these times. By doing so, perhaps we can reach a critical mass. The number of people who are blithely unaware of, or denying, what is happening to this country, need to be reached. It is so important to this country's survival.

Bingo! I agree whole-heartedly. Making connections among the knowledgable writers and presenting them to readers is the way we all can learn more and more about current events. So much is happening simultaneously that we, as readers, cannot hope to be well informed by our own efforts. Thank you Liza and Dan Beach!

"So much is happening simultaneously..."

I believe that is the point: It is Shock and Awe, an avalanche, a tsunami of rapid-fire atrocities that leaves us with our heads spinning. I wake each morning thinking, "What's he done now?" I am also beginning to wonder how much Hair Drumpf himself is doing it. If I were a betting man, I'd bet his closest advisers are tripling down on the chaos with Drumpf's blessing. They are happy to give the orange menace credit while they do whatever.

..."wonder how much Hair Drumpf himself is doing it."

My guess is that he, himself, is not at all the brains behiind the operations. For example, Hegseth cut off arms to Ukraine, a week or so ago, without telling the White House. When a reporter asked 'who cut off the arms?' Drumpf said somethig like 'I don't know: why don't you tell me?' That response reveals much more about his mentality than just his ignorance. Nuf sed.

Oh make no mistake. Many of us have been reached. We just don't like what you are selling.

For example: Heather Cox Richardson:

The camp in the Everglades opened a few days ago. And she already knows what the conditions there are? How does she know? Or is she just making stuff up to drive her political agenda? Hm.

Though it’s difficult to parse some reporting these days, there are credible eye witness accounts of that camp. Which has no other goal than to hold human beings most of whom have done nothing more heinous than work hard to better their families lives. The stated purpose of it by this corrupt administration and their contractors is to profit by it, using our tax dollars to create a hell on earth.

If there are credible witnesses, why no links?

Forgive my skepticism... but how would anyone know at this point, apart from the few people who have been there? As direct witnesses? I am referring to a general estimation that it does not seem credible to assume that Heather knows within a few days what is happening on the ground far removed from 99.999% of us.

Other than the actual photos of Trump himself taken as he toured that facility, the aerial photos released by the administration? The topographical facts of the site?

His own words describing the alligators (and pythons) which populate that swamp, surrounding it.

The eye witness reports of the physical parameters of the housing - the temperature and the 24/7 lighting?

Perhaps all the horror that he, Kristi Noem, and Ron DeSantis are openly boasting of is some performative dance.

I will take a moderate path and praise this site and Liza and familiar readers for reasonable discussion. I have nothing but praise for HCR and Liza. I am a historian and professor for 30 years with a Jewish trans daughter. We see Gaza as an example of genocide and call for a democratic Israel. Many of us in VT worry that like farmworkers, ICE kidnapping of other voices is possible.

We need to block ICE and build paths to greater equity for all. Migrant Justice based here in VT is a democratic organization I urge all to support. The majority of us want democracy and fairness for all. Lets work on building that path. Read Liza,; HCR; Jason Stanley, Tim Snyder and Eddie Glaude to begin. Some are ready for Chris Hedges; he may be too strong for others.

Build the communities we need and deserve. Praise to Liza and so many of you

Here is another picture essay & report from yesterday, on the state of the McArthur park in LA.

For those still following the story.

Yup. This is what it looked like yesterday.

Who do you believe? Your lying eyes?

Regarding the ICE parade in the LA park: has anyone in the ICE command structure explained their reasons for putting the parade on?

Not that I have seen. Trump admin's vaunted transparency seems to be spluttering.

You know wearing these banditos masks with no identification is the thing that really frightens me. What's to say a group of people...non ICE...want to take out someone? They get dressed up in battle gear, wear masks, brandish guns and handcuffs, and whisk off whomever they please. This is like the "desaparecidos" when people just disappeared. How can that be legal? Seriously. Does anyone know?

Excellent point. ICE is not really any different than the death squads who disappeared people in Central America during the 1980s and 1990s. Perhaps some of the pardoned January 6 insurrectionists are ICE contractors or even just volunteers.

Here's something else that has sort of slipped under the radar. Recent statements by Trump suggesting that farmers could "vouch" for their long-term migrant workers facing deportation has been interpreted by some as proposing a system that could resemble forced labor, where individuals are tied to their employers and face deportation if they leave. Another name for forced labor is SLAVERY. There is no doubt in my mind that Stephen Miller is behind this, he is a hateful bigot. Democrats in Congress should be investigating him.

Thanks for that! A voucher system combined with concentration camps will closely mimic the slave-states' former Jim Crow era system of prisons that would 'rent' out former-slave prisoners (with guards, too, of course) to plantations as a labor force. Simultaneously, other prisoners would work on chain-gangs or on county-owned farms. These are historic facts. The Jim Crow era is what MAGA fans refer to as "Again" in their motto.
