It’s that time of year. Some people have already ordered seeds (I hear they spend their winters hunched over seed catalogues) and have them in pots under little special lamps. Those of us who are minimal garderners are looking forward to buying about ten basil plants to plant. Why basil, you may ask?
PESTO.
I know one can make pesto out of most anything: arugula, parsley, carrots, old plastic bags (no). But I like the traditional kind, and my family looks forward to batches of pesto in little plastic containers throughout the summer. It makes me feel needed.
One year, many moons ago, I did a full vegetable garden with tomatoes, lettuce, beens, arugula, carrots. But a ground hog wiped me out in one evening. I was done, I did not feel like digging a fence into the ground and all that. But this year, I may also plant parsley, chives, oregano and thyme. Just the idea of an herb garden makes me smile. As does people eating my pesto!
Do you garden?
More on the trial (Carroll Vs Trump Civil Rape Trial) tomorrow. I may return to draw, I just needed to take a day off today from that world. I must have been a lawyer in another life because I enjoy all the drama and posturing. Or, more likely, I feel this trial is very important.
I’m a reluctant gardener with a similar history though my problem was turkeys. This year there will be garlic, chives, leeks, basil. Cilantro. Potatoes. Shishito peppers. A few hot peppers. Blueberries and raspberries. Thanks to an irrigation system since I’m unreliable for watering.
I’m a pesto lover too. Must be basil! and LOTS of garlic; olive oil, pine nuts, and pecorino cheese (or parmesan). So easy, so delicious. Oh, now my mouth is watering.
