Love them, especially the toddler cartoon. Do you remember when Trump visited the UK and Londoners displayed a giant balloon of him in diapers? That was classic.

I was in London at that time, and saw that balloon, and drew it! It was quite something.

Trump is of course a monster. But politics breeds monsters and we’ve seen many of them here in America, e.g. Joe McCarthy and Ted Kennedy. The funny thing is, being a monster is not actually a crime. Even monsters are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.

The fact that Trump’s a monster does not excuse the abuse of power embodied in this most recent indictment. Unlike the secret documents indictment, which deals with real, definable crimes, this one is dubious if not b.s. of the purest ray serene. If Trump is criminally liable for his claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him, where does that leave The Rightful Governor of Georgia, Stacey Abrams? She made the same claim, based on zero evidence. If making false statements in an attempt to influence an election is a crime, where does that leave Hillary Clinton, whose campaign concocted the phony Russian collusion narrative against Trump in 2016? If attempting to overturn election results is criminal behavior, what are we to make of Al Gore’s attempt to overturn the election results in Florida in 2000?

When the state of Georgia revised its election law, President Biden and a chorus of the usual suspects screamed that it was “Jim Crow on steroids” & etc. That was a lie. Ought they have been prosecuted for that lie, which was a clear attempt to subvert the regular order of electoral process in Georgia?

The special counsel who brought these charges against Trump emoted about January 6, 2021–but not one of those charges touches directly on the events of that day. Trump is not charged with incitement to riot or insurrection. This is a tacit admission that while he may bear, as I believe, a large share of the moral responsibility for the events of that day, he’s not criminally responsible for them. So that’s over and we’re left with an indictment that twists the law to criminalize speech and actions that while reprehensible are not criminal.

If that’s the direction in which Democrats and progressives want to take the country, so be it. But what goes around, comes around…
