Today, the Republican nominee for President met with a parole officer. It was virtual, and he was allowed to have his lawyer Todd Blanche present, but it still is an interesting image to conjure up. Apparently, this is standard procedure before sentencing, which Judge Merchan has set for July 11th. The meeting is “meant to assess a person’s financial resources, any challenges related to mental health or addiction, current living situation and any criminal history – including whether he or she associates with anyone who has a criminal record, which is prohibited for those sentenced to probation,” according to US News and World Report.
Associating with people who have a criminal record?? Any challanges to mental health?
As for the sentencing, it’s hard to know what Merchan will give Trump. Jail time is probably unlikely, but experts say that remorse often plays into the sentencing decision. That’s something Trump is not— remorseful. I wonder if Merchan takes into account things that Trump has said, like that it would “great honor to go to jail.” Does he really mean that? And would such an action make him even more popular? So hard to understand.
Just to end on a positive note, here is a drawing about fun stuff! Pool time!
Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow. I have to draw my weekly batch of cartoons!
What's going on under the water? Now, THAT would be a cartoon for the ages.
