What would Jimmy Carter do? He has already done it. Lived a life of honesty and service. What will Donald Trump do? Live a life of dishonesty and stealing.

Trump is what those i knew in my Brooklyn childhood called a ‘bum’.

Carter would have been kind, and a gentleman.

Bum? Everybody has one.

I believe that given the same opportunity, Jimmy Carter would have responded in a polite manner to Trump just as Obama did when put in that space next to him.

Healing...? I'm sorry Liza, but Trump and the libertarian right are not interested in healing, only capitulation.

Sure. Make America Greedy Again Lay America Fallow Again - MAGA/LAFA.

My hardest prayers are for those who don't realize what they're doing. The fire of love doesn't burn without good wood and kindling.

Great article! You are right. We do need to heal somehow. I wish I knew how. He hasn’t even taken office yet and has already taken the most outlandish and stupid stances on issues that none of us knew were issues (Greenland, Gulf of America). It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Start by praying for those who need it most. If you can't pray to God, pray to love. Whoever has ears will hear you.

I often ask myself these days about the choices Jimmy Carter would make were he living specific moments in my life. I always come up with the image of his smile. Kindness and peace. Not easy. Try anyway.

He would've worked to give America a black president. He patiently persevered in faith and God answered his prayers.

Or maybe Love answered his prayers. Maybe both. ( 1 John 4:16, never seen in stadium crowds)

Jimmy Carter would have prayed for Donal Trump. As a man of good character and decency, he would ask for the same guidence from his god as he would for you and me.

I watched the entire service for President Carter at the Washington National Cathedral. I'm convinced that President Obama was "babysitting" the terrible toddler next to him. As a man of dignity and diplomacy, President Obama did what he could to prevent a complete breakdown and acting out from Trump. The former presidents and first ladies were seated according to protocol. Michelle Obama would have been seated next to Trump. I can just hear her saying "NO WAY"!

i can't for the life of me understand how anyone could have the wherewithal to be civil to that man. It's like shaking hands with the devil. Good on Mrs. Pence for being principled enough to refuse. How he is reacting to the fires is abominable. I truly believe he has no soul. As always, thanks for the update.

Maybe it is a kindness that Jimmy Carter was spared the spectacle of a Trump presidency. I look forward to a livestream from you, Liza. I am resting comfortably in order to recover from the flu.
