I don’t need to tell you it’s a stressful time. But we have to keep laughing.
Some news about the news. The NY Times, which for a few days was reporting on the digital front page about the crazy Gaza statement by Trump, now has an editorial titled, “Now Is Not The Time To Tune Out.” It opens by saying, don’t get distracted. I suggest the paper take it’s own advice going forward. Also stop putting inane articles on the upper right hand side of the digital front page about reality shows, recipes and exercise routines. Now is not the time for that, it should all be about the attack on our system of government and our less fortunate citizens (LGBTQ, women, people of color, immigrants, poor, homeless, etc).
I heard in an Instagram video by Rep Eric Swawell, and then from Heather Cox Richardson, that the Senate phones are blowing up because people calling their consituents. Yay! The Senate phone system usually gets about 40 calls a minute; now it is up to 1,600.
Trump wants to take over the programing at the Kennedy Center. He plans to fire the board and make himself Chairman of the Board. While in the grand scheme of things (the threat to our democracy), this is not really that important, but it is optics, and it does show a desire on his part to CONTROL EVERYTHING. It is distraction, and a very annoying distraction. Having grown up in DC, I recall going to the Kennedy Center after it opened. For me this shows me how Trump thinks of himself, he wants to be a dictator who has “good taste” in the arts. No more Dance Theater of Harlem, most likely. He will also take over the Kennedy Center Honors and give the award away only to artists who kiss his feet.
Please, please read or listen to this below (he is a great reader and you can listen as you do the dishes). Robert Hubell’s post last night is is a clear-eyed take about what has happened and what is currently happening.
Yesterday here, I said that Trump administration is spreading lies (as they are wont to do ) that USAID is corrupt. They provide no evidence on that. According to Richardson, Steven Lee Myers and Stuart A. Thompson of the New York Times reported today that “the disinformation making those claims on social media posts, for example, comes from Russia.”
Senator Angus King (I-ME) took Republican Senate collegues to task the other day as he tried to persuade them not to confirm Christian Nationalist Russell Vought, a key author of Project 2025, as director of the Office of Management and Budget. He argued that yes, our system is at times slow and cumbersome, but it was designed to be that way FOR A REASON. Checks and balances on power. Amoung the things he said (this is from Heather Cox Richardson):
“[T]his isn't about politics. This isn't about policy. This isn't about Republican versus Democrat. This is about tampering with the structure of our government, which will ultimately undermine its ability to protect the freedom of our citizens. If our defense of the Constitution is gone, there's nothing left to us.”
King asked his Republican colleagues to “say no to the undermining and destruction of our constitutional system.” “[A]re there no red lines?” he asked them. “Are there no limits?”
“[W]e're experiencing in real time exactly what the framers most feared. When you clear away the smoke, clear away the DOGE, the executive orders, foreign policy pronouncements, more fundamentally what's happening is the shredding of the constitutional structure itself. And we have a profound responsibility…to stop it.”
Trump is revoking Biden’s security clearance. Petty.

I wish we would do a citizen's arrest immediately on little Elon. so as to stop the damage now. All legal measures are excellent but int eh meantime... a nice immediate little arrest would be nice.
