Trump’s cabinet is shaping up to be a white male circus clown car. But I am really scared of Elon Musk. Here from Axios is a comparison of the two, and how alike they are:
Both understand the power — and tricks — of social media.
Both had tough, dominating dads.
Both are rich and have their tentacles in numerous businesses.
Both revel in stirring the pot — and spreading fact and fiction at scale.
Both lack the empathy that holds others back.
Both believe the country and government need a massive shock to be saved.
Both view themselves as immune to rules and norms that hold other people back.
Musk, who has not been given any appointment and probably will remain a sort of wacky mascot in the administration, seems like a rich goofball—albeit a dangerous one. Steven Miller really frightens me, and he will be Deputy Chief of Staff. Marco Rubio played his cards right and will be appointed Secretary of State. Mike Huckabee will be Ambassador to Israel. Spineless Nikki Haley was summarily dismissed by Trump.
Not even in office, Trump is calling world leaders on his own without going through the State Department, as is customary. This worries me— he is setting up a government on his own, which we know is what he wants to do. Perhaps if he continues in this vein, he will run into more legal trouble. How much immunity does he really have?
This is all so very alarming.
We see bright spots every now and then, such as a Federal Judge in Tennessee blocked a law that would require the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
Exxon CEO is asking Trump not to withdraw from the Paris Climate Deal.
Democrat Reuben Gallego beat out Kari Lake in the Arizona Senate race, but the Senate is still controlled by Republicans.
I see stories here and there that imply that Trump voters may not know what they voted for. The stats from the election indicate that voters may have voted for him, but also voted in favor of abortion rights. Some Trump voters want to give undocumented workers a chance to apply for citizenship before being deported—probably not what Trump has in mind. These things point to an electorate that really wasn’t paying much attention.
This is a drawing I did during Covid when he was last President.
It’s all a game to Trump and Musk.
Thanks for being here. My brain is mush from reading the news. Time to take a rest for the day, see you tomorrow!
I've turned off the television to save my sanity. The term so widely used during this election cycle rings true about msm/cable news: "word salad". I follow you, Robert Reich and Heather Cox RIchardson to stay informed until I can take on more. I've joined the ACLU and Planned Parenthood and will get involved in my local and regional community. I am fortunate to live in a wonderful blue state, Oregon and am thankful for all our blue state governors who are being pro-active and setting up fortifications. Finally....go BLUESKY! Love the name! Stokes such a positive image and it's BLUE!
With clown car trick, it's the egress that is funny. Not the ingress. This will hold true for Trump's second term, just as did for his first, I suspect. (Really, I just wanted to use those two words.)
