Last night in a press conference with Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu, Trump said, in essence, he wants to take over Gaza. He won’t be able to do that, and it’s a distraction from the other sneaky stuff Trump’s doing (or allowing tech bros to do). Which is what it was for 12 hours until the Trump administration said a few hours ago when I started this post that they have no plans to take over Gaza.
A Federal Judge indefinitley blocked Trump’s move to end birthright citizenship.
Senator Chris Murphy did a great Instagram Live last night, I watched it today. He says none of us are helpless. He was among the protestors outside last night at the Treasury Dept, where there were 1,000+ people gathered.
He reminded us that we stopped Trump from ending the Affordable Care Act in 2017, and he argues that we did it by being loud. It convinced a couple of votes to turn to save it. We have to raise the volume level, and join actions at the local and national level. Give donations to groups that are fighting legally. He said he believes that Republicans got cold feet in 2017 because of the protests.
Here is the post in which Murphy gives a clear breakdown of what’s happening and why, and what we can do.
Murphy says that he not voting for one single Trump nominee as long as this corrupt takeover is happening, for as long as USAID is being defunded, as long as Musk has control of our funds, as long as Trump is violating court orders. He will not vote for anything until this theft of your data is over. He is urging other Senate Democrats to do the same. Make Republicans pay the price of turning things over to the billionaire class.
I urge you to listen to the Murphy live, link above , just click the box with his photo. It’s so helpful. I am planning on keeping abreast of protests, and let me know if you hear of any.
Thanks for being here, see you tomorrow. I am going to see a play with a friend tonight, a comedy, too! Much needed distraction :)
Speaking of nice distractions: Here is a video I took today of ice on the Hudson River. Turn up your sound!
Unfortunately, I see it less as a coup and more as an abuse of power, now. The coup attempt was Jan 6. We are currently living under a trifecta of power supported by an imbalance in the Supreme Court and an ineffective mainstream media. However, we do still have A LOT of people who have their eyes and ears open and are willing to take action. Let us not despair.
As I said here (I think) and on Andy B.'s Substack, some of these outrageous statements and executive orders are just smoke and mirrors from the orange oily flimflam man, while the real coup is the thefts going on behind the scenes. It's like one of those shell games. He was never going to keep the tariffs. He just wanted to look like a strong man making other countries do his bidding. But what he asked Canada and Mexico to do, was already done in the Biden administration. And as far as a Gaza Riviera....really? I almost choked on my coffee. So meantime, while the masses are up in arms about this inane statement, the DOGE juniors are siphoning the government monetary files. It's a pattern. It's like they're eating the dogs; they're eating the cats; they're eating our pets. If it wasn't so tremendously insidious, it would be laughable. And tis only the first couple of weeks. I love and am proud of Chris Murphy.
