Unfortunately, I see it less as a coup and more as an abuse of power, now. The coup attempt was Jan 6. We are currently living under a trifecta of power supported by an imbalance in the Supreme Court and an ineffective mainstream media. However, we do still have A LOT of people who have their eyes and ears open and are willing to take action. Let us not despair.
This is a digital coup...some have suggested something like "the U.S. would have been about to take action against a physical force of unelected, unvetted, etc. people -- like on Jan 6, but this is less obvious to most."
This is extremely diabolical and has already succeeded in large part, as Musk already has all the data...from each and every one of us and his competitors, etc. He has it all.
And, he has Trump's and the GOP's blessing...until any group of them grow a pair and actually stand up to Trump...THEY have the power and are not using it...they're letting the coup complete.
I texted my 19 year old son who is a college freshman and asked him where he was last weekend. He is not a computer science major, but damn he can figure out my issues on a computer!! He was annoyed and told me he was in his dorm room playing some stupid video game! (Me grateful he was not high, drunk in a bar fight or got a girl pregnant!!! Now adding espionage!!) This is what Trump has done to us - scare us to death over nonsense and then hack us!!!
enjoy your evening! we must all take little breaks! thanks for the ice jam video- a sign of spring. we have already had one ice jam break on the Roaring Fork River-fishermen beware!
and beware all you who are ignoring the Constitution- resolution against you is piling up like ice on a river-it will not be stopped.
I wonder if everyone actually voted who is now finally protesting, watching more news, sharing important info and bringing up these subjects with others. And joining Occupy Democrats. It will be so interesting to see how many more people vote in upcoming elections on all levels from city to the whole country. I feel as if I am an ant and our hill has been violently poked with a flaming stick.
As I said here (I think) and on Andy B.'s Substack, some of these outrageous statements and executive orders are just smoke and mirrors from the orange oily flimflam man, while the real coup is the thefts going on behind the scenes. It's like one of those shell games. He was never going to keep the tariffs. He just wanted to look like a strong man making other countries do his bidding. But what he asked Canada and Mexico to do, was already done in the Biden administration. And as far as a Gaza Riviera....really? I almost choked on my coffee. So meantime, while the masses are up in arms about this inane statement, the DOGE juniors are siphoning the government monetary files. It's a pattern. It's like they're eating the dogs; they're eating the cats; they're eating our pets. If it wasn't so tremendously insidious, it would be laughable. And tis only the first couple of weeks. I love and am proud of Chris Murphy.
I don’t see Trump’s proposed takeover of Gaza as part of a strategy to distract us from his savagery. He looked to me like he was serious. He’s seriously stupid and, it seems demented, delusional about his powers.
Thank you, Liza, for including the Chris Murphy piece, Instagram. I don’t do Instagram because my bandwidth just isn’t broad enough… I’d heard him speak incidentally on YouTube reels I bumped into, but this statement was an oral essay, tied together all the pieces, connecting the dots, showed that almost everything is an ingredient of the grand recipe for the final goal. So articulate. Optimistic as well, while also cautionary. Anyway, so glad you included it. I listened as I drove home from work. I wrote him a comment thanking him as well.
Thanks Liza. Somedays you are my sunshine. Rivers are fun (mostly). I think of Huck and Tom. At least Huck reminds us that, if we really need to, there’s always a territory we might light out to. ;-D
Great cartoon and good message. 2 things (for me):
1. I just placed a freeze on my cc at Transunion, Equifax and Experian. Easy but will take about 30+ minutes, depending.
2. Why in the world would Dems vote FOR ANY of Trump's nominees? So, talking about a temp No vote does not work for me. I'm super upset that any Dem voted for any nominee so far. Period.
We all use some technological device to communicate, send money, receive money, communicate, and whatnot is telling. I believe your cartoon captures the new coup that is occurring right now. It isn't physical like Jan. 6th, but in essence, it was through technology that Jan 6 pulled all of the differing factions support 47 to the capitol for the takeover of the Capitol. Now, other factions are allowing or helping this cyber coup take place. We can't see all of it on TV like the Jan 6th coup. I'm not sure what it was that a man - retired and slightly disabled - while I was grocery shopping - out of the blue started talking to me how distraught he was about the state of affairs in the country and what 47 is doing to destroy everything. He had very few groceries in his cart and said he could barely afford what he had and was so worried about how much less he would be able to buy in the future. He said I worked hard to have it come to this. I sympathized with him but felt guilty that my cart was filling up! I'm retired, too, with a dual pacemaker, type 2 diabetes, and only one kidney. I worked hard my whole life, too, since I was 16. 30 years - 24 / 7 as a dairy farmer with my husband, then 20+ years as a teacher, substituting afterward because I loved working with students. I didn't ask what his job had been, and it didn't matter. What matters is that so many like him are and will suffer. I do what I can when I see a need - or there is a GoFundMe for people locally or even families across the country going through hard times. I'm glad I got to talk with him and listen. I wish our Representatives in Congress would listen. I know people are calling them to complain. I am daily. I hope that everyone who leaves a message does not fall on deaf ears. We need people like you, Liza, to listen to. Thank you.
Many thanks to you Liza for all you are doing.Your words, along with Heather CR and the many fine guests on Amy Goodman's Democracy Now, among myriad sites, are all deeply important.
People power is oft slighted in the US but it is crucial to 1) derail tyranny and 2) help build the world community of justice and equoity we all need. This will take time and we must stay peaceful, connected and utterly determined.
Together we can build...... and listen to Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela if you want a boost!!!!

It is a coup.
We understand coup in a physical form. With technology, it is now cyber.
Agreed

Musk has ended Head Start and the free lunch program in the Department of Education. Trump continues to harm trans children Where will this end?
I think any action like that was blocked?
The sheer batshitiness is breathtaking. (Yes i invented a bad word.)(lately my hobby)

Agreed. Seriously stupid

It was great. I am a new fan of his, big time.

Thank you, that's good to hear!!
Thanks Liza. Everyone who wants to can have a role in resist. Knowing some specific options is very helpful.
