I like your focus on the People's March! Today is the first time in my life I haven't watched the inauguration. I'm 72, so there have been a lot of inaugurations in my life, but I feel no desire to support this administration. I read Robert Reich today and found his viewpoint helpful. Actually, Substack in particular is great at uplifting my spirits. Your drawings and comments are central to my window on the world these days.
Liza, excellent comments. I listened to his speech and felt sick to my stomach for all the lies and ego-driven references. And now the FOX Will enter the hen house, I mean White House. All of Trump's appointees are frequent guests on FOX. Keep your comments and drawings going as we need shelter from the upcoming storm.
thank you for the summation. I could not bring myself to watch it. thanks to Joe Biden for the last minute pardons. I hope the rest of the world will understand that Trump does not speak for all Americans.
Thank you Liza for sharing your thoughts. I once worked with a security officer at a college campus who was posted at a garage. I was also a security officer and working towards a degree. I stepped in her shack, and she was playing a tape of MLK, jr., “I have a dream speech” and she had tears streaming down her face. It struck me that she was forever touched by his fight for Democracy and Freedom.
Today I felt that our dreams were going far away under the weight of this Presidency and planned agenda. It seemed ludicrous that the “peaceful” transfer of power is now overtaken by the extreme plans for punishment of immigrants, a shut down of US immigration websites, and plans to close the border with Mexico, maybe Canada too. Sad and distressing.
You said that we must maintain our system of checks and balances. Both houses of congress are controlled by Republicans and the Supreme Court has a conservative majority. This is not balanced nor will congress or the Supreme Court check the president. That noble concept has died along with democracy.
If I could draw a cartoon, today I would draw two head shots Martin Luther King with the caption "I have a dream" and next to that DJT with the caption "I have a nightmare".
Blackout on radio and TV. As I mentioned before, I have a weak stomach. To keep my sanity, I may not watch the news for four years. God saved him to make America great again? (Knocks head against wall.) I'm surprised lightening didn't strike. Thank you for keeping us informed. You are indeed a treasure.
A snowstorm is brewing here in upstate NY - lake effect for the next two days - predicted feet of snow. Today felt like a snowstorm brewing for our country—lots of blowing snow to do by my husband and shoveling for me. Not today, though, as my husband watched TV all day. We have been on opposite sides since Trump first became president. It was a long 4 years then and will be again. I am scared for our country. I had another family member stop by tonight and jokingly say they came to partake in the inauguration party because they knew it would upset me! I stood my ground when I mentioned that Trump can't rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. My husband and others said why not? And how about the Panama Canal? Well, I didn't come right out and tell them how stupid they sounded but I told them they must read and research.
I said no other President had mentioned that we were getting screwed over by Panama! It only came up because of Trump's brainstorming. So, if Trump says it, it must be so! So, I went to the government website and printed out the Panama Canal Treaty, including how President Carter negotiated the treaty, etc. I handed them the papers - I can print stuff for pennies on my computer - and they said they wouldn't read it. I asked. Do you think Trump has ever read it? It is going to be a long 4 years. I'll be 78 at the next election if I'm still alive. This is the first one I refused to give my time to watching. I will be watching for more of your cartoons and musings. Thank you for all you do, Liza, for providing us with your time and talent and a platform and place to see and feel that we are not alone.
Thank you, Liza. Your ability to sift through chaotic details of turning points to share the most relevant images and words in the catalogue of horrors always is helpful. We are all lucky to have you!
Vilification didn't work, maybe edification will. The epiphanation of Donald Trump begins at MATT 5:44 Love your enemies, pray for your persecutors. You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. DJT himself said that he trusts his instincts. Let him know you're not attacking, just assessing. He wants to be powerful so he'll be popular. Let him know that the popularity comes from leading your team, not bullying them.
Say it NICEly even if he doesn't. God listens and waits for just the right time. Donald Trump deserves mercy. We ALL do. The sooner we convince him of that, the better off we'll be.

All dictators, such as Hitler, have a penchant for invoking God and saying God is on their side.
Trump has not acived a dictator's power, but he will try. Oh how he will try.
Trump is no Greek hero but he definitely has fatal flaws that may very well lay him low: conceit,
arrogance, lack of empathy, lack of concern for anyone but himself. These characteristics will
not stand him in good stead. I think there is a very real chance he will crash and burn before
his four years are up.
...from your mouth to God's ears.

I can and am and will keep my eye on MLK.

God bless the memory of MLK.
Thanks, we have had tv off all day. On making us great - I believe we have always been great, especially the last 4 years. And hope we will be again.

Inform his instincts.
No apologies necessary Liza. I watched nothing but Rachel and 3 movies in pajamas.
It is appalling what has happened already and it is going to get a lot worse. Self Care my friend, self care.
