We are under siege - at least an attempted one spearheaded by intimidation and threats. It cannot be tolerated.
I am ashamed that PBS removed anything at all from a program about Art Spiegelman in particular - a giant as far as I’m concerned. (I would remove my monthly support in protest but fear crippling the good they do.)
I recommend Maus as a learning tool all parents can use as a cautionary tale in a format children (above 12 in our case) can follow that describes in stark detail how a population can be attacked by an authoritarian government and literally murdered for simply being born into a culture considered ‘outside’ the accepted model.
Your writing and your drawing both contribute so much, which so many of us need to see, read
and absorb. Humor is woven into it often. When I was growing up I got to see the early days
of The Tonight Show, where I learned a lot about humor and laughter. Here is an audio clip that
has probably not been heard by many people lately. It is a lovely song written by Steve Allen,
and also played by him...barely...on the trumpet. There has never been as funny a performance on the trumpet as this one. Please enjoy his healing laughter!
I am spending the weekend planting flowers in my containers. It's been cold and rainy in Ohio (matches the mood of the nation!). Other than calling Senator Husted to tell him (or his answering machine) that I do not support this bill and I will not support him in his upcoming election if he votes for it, I'm shutting off the news this weekend. I'm trying to decompress. Thank you Liza for your lovely cartoons that bring a smile to our face in such bleak times.
Perhaps it is because belonging is more important than the rule of law. Perhaps it is because belonging feels, to many people, more real than the law, which can appear to be capricious and arbitrary.
Liza, I was thinking along the same lines: everyday, Trump tries to figure out what will grab the most headlines everyday disregarding who he will affect/hurt. I love that Harvard called his bluff and immediately sued. That's what has to happen every single time he tries something ridiculous.
Liza, thank you for including the HCR video. I have subscribed on SUBSTACK for years now, but had not followed up on Facebook or YouTube, have subscribed to her now… It feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day but still… If we are selective and do some skimming if the material is familiar from another author, we can get through it… The last thing we need is to be biased by receiving only some of the news, you know? So much awfulness… You have a real talent for providing balance. I love how HCR ended her talk about not just spending time with friends and having downtime and time for Joy, but including Art in your life. Bruce Springsteen had a short clip I may have saved somewhere where he remarked that this White House has no art, no music, no family pet, no evidence of family time where they relax and enjoy one another… He goes on and on eloquently. And then today I saw a meme which may or may not be authentic, but it was Bruce Springsteen and Taylor suggesting the idea of a benefit concert on June 14. Now that would be a hoot! Totally support the concept. Already lining up protest activities for No Kings day or whatever they are calling it… Anyway, grateful for today’s post. I’ve been less attentive than I like being, but I’ve been spread too thin over too many accounts and some life responsibilities began to fall into neglect… Scary moments there so, balance. Balance. Always love your cartoons. Thank you.
Thanks for including HCR on YouTube. She was informative and confirmed my worst fears about how close we are to the endgame with Trump. When Pete Hegseth was in his confirmation hearing, I posted everywhere I could that he was a dangerous White Nationalist who should not be in charge of the Defense Department. I didn't see this discussed anywhere at the time. Currently, it is widely known and Pete is in charge of the DOD. Whether the troops follow his orders or choose to protect the constitution could determine the outcome of Trump becoming our dictator.
Love the cartoon. We all need to be able to laugh at something in these dark times. Thank you.
Oh, Liza! Thanks for the cartoon. I needed this today. Hugs.
A wonderful dog and stick cartoon! We just played that exact game at my brother-in-law's house. Thank YOU for being there!

Liz, you continue to inspire us. Thank you.
Good description of Maus, Patris. And I agree- it angers me but yet I sort of understand why PBS did it. We need them.
I agree. Though it saddens me that they had to.

Liza, too funny cartoons sandwiching the bad news created by the growing dementia of the orange man.

The really disturbing part is that 215 Republicans have no issue supporting his cruelty. How is it that Americans have elected so many sociopaths?

The corollary to “Trump Starts His Day” might be:
Each lawyer concerned with the preservation of the rule of law should open their eyes every morning and ask the day: How can I sue Donald Trump.

POLKA DOTTED PAJAMAS! I'm laffing so hard!
MEAN-SPIRITED AND EVIL. I'm nodding and fuming.
PROTESTING, READING AND SHARING. I'm hopeful.

Thanks for the news updates, even if I'm 18 hours late.
Thank you Liza great reads and video by HCR and love the cartoon. Took me a bit to laugh at it, it’s almost like I have forgotten how
