It appears that Trump is try g to get democratic states and cities to fight against some federal officers, so he can declare a federal emergency and cancel voting for the next forever. His way of keeping the fascists in power. Hitler did it and Trump appears to follow Hitler and Putin rather than good American democratic steps.

Thank you for this excellent column. Sly was a genius.

PS: My last comment was about the Harvard situation. According to his mother, Baron Trump did not apply to Harvard.

Thanks Liza LA is a disaster unfolding with military action in the streets that was not warranted. All a distraction effort by administration to get eyes off the Musk and taRump pudding contest

LA itself is not a disaster. They have, I heard, the largest sheriff's dept. and third largest police dept. in the country. They can manage themselves.

A federal judge today issued a temporary restraining order vs. deployment of troops and national guard. This is good news. See Jim Acosta's reporting today.

Oh yes, the solace and uplift

Such a wonderful post and I love when you say you have grown up now… “Sort of.” That’s me. I live in a third grade bubble. Some of my closest friends are approaching 60 years old and I met them when they were 8! It’s beautiful. So rich.

This is a favorite — I love the words, the artists, their music, their heart and soul ~~ Bless Dr. King, Bless Marcus Shelby’s wise voice, his perspicacity and leadership ~~ I shared this at the start of my dear husband’s celebration of life 2.5 years ago ~~

Join the millions of everyday people who’ll be standing with courage, heart, and resolve on the 14th. Trump has no idea what he’s unleashed.

I am seeing and hearing a lot of chatter on the YouTube channels (Rachel Maddow, Dave Pakman, MSNBC, the BBC, and so forth) suggesting that Herr Drumpf is trying desperately to misdirect our attention away from his many failures (SQUIRREL!), and most especially from the astounding blowup with Muskrat.

Whether he thought of it himself (doubtful) or if the brainier of his Orcs realized that the Boorish and Brutal Bro Breakup was just too juicy, called far too much attention to itself, plus there's us over here in the nosebleeds cheering and stamping for anything, an-ee-thing that shows the world what a complete dramedy Drunmpf and his so-called 'government' is, so somebody said, gee whiz, fellas, we gotta do something.

IF they are right, the whole SEND IN THE TROOPS, CALL IN THE MARINES, is a smokescreen. So far as I know, the troops have stood around looking troopish, heavily armed and armored, magazines in weapons (but are they loaded?), but the violence involves the LAPD only. They seem -- *seem* to be mostly quelling violence, looting, the sort of thing that violent agitators do to make us old peaceniks look like terrorists. Of course, there are inexcusable acts like riding people down with horses and shooting reporters with rubber bullets, but everyone's blood is up and, unfortunately, playing right into Drumpf's hands and his clown-car cabinet.

Apart from being a depraved act, we should watch for charges brought against any officer seen to deliberately harm anyone who does not pose an imminent risk. They were caught on camera. Let’s watch.

Great post. "We've got to live together." Sly writes and sings about what we need to do, and all these years later, we still can't get it together; we still can't live together. Good grief, Charlie Brown. As for the orange man, again, my take is tis all smoke and mirrors, diverting us away from the Big Bedeviled Bill he is trying to pass. No one is talking about the bill now (many in office haven't even read what's in it...Unbelievable!). People's and the media's attention is on the parade; the military call out, and the protests. Now there is bound to be a real mess on the 14th because half of America is planning on protesting, and as others have said, he will use that to get more troops in the street. I thought I read Pope Leo is doing a video mass or some such on that day as well. I hope so. We need the prayers. God, save us from this evil. I think I'm getting an ulcer.

Pope Leo will have a celebration in Chicago. It would be smart for people to build up his audience there. Bigger crowd and all.

The bad sick occupant of the oval office is at it again. Horrible. Just horrible. Hurricane Katrina was far, far worse. That was a Republican president, too. But unlike Reagan and dumpy pants 🩳, he didn't have dementia.

Sly Stone’s line from the 1970’s anthem, “Stand!,” is never more fitting than today. Listen if you don’t know the song, or even if you do.

“Stand, you’ve been sitting far too long, there's a permanent crease in your right and wrong. Stand!”

And this line that speaks directly to us:

Stand for the things that you know are right, It’s the truth that the truth makes them so uptight. Stand!

Mary Sherhart, both as well -always helps me to do group prep and some quiet mental prep before I go out on the next protest. We have a Juneteenth celebration going on in Kalamazoo, as well as No Kings protest on the 14th. Carry on, keep going!
