Vice President Harris Shows Us
By visually demonstrating the administration's support of women
Now that the two major parties have selected their candidates for President, the press is running stories about who Nikki Haley followers will go for, and stories about the ever-present undecideds. There are stories about third party candidates, and one in particular because he is garnering some early support. I sort of wish the media would ignore Robert Kennedy. He’s —how shall I say it— unhinged. And now he is considering as his VP choice another unhinged person, NFL quarterback Aaron Rogers. According to the NY Times, just like Kennedy, Rogers “has increasingly embraced the role of celebrity provocateur and contrarian for his stances on vaccines, public health and the coronavirus pandemic.” Clearly, Kennedy is doing this to get the support of a certain demographic. The other person he is considering is the pro-wrestler Jesse Ventura.
Have Americans gone out of their minds?
What worries me is that some voters who don’t want Trump or Biden—for whatever reason—will think Kennedy must be a good guy because of his name and family and just go to the polls and choose him. His family does not endorse him, he is nothing like his father or uncle. But so many people won’t pay attention to that or to any of his specific views.
The Republican Party is now run by Trump. He gutted the Party leadership and put in their place loyalists, including his daughter-in-law. Trump hosted the Hungarian leader (and dictator) Viktor Orban recently, and I wonder if he was asking him for money, or some kind of deal. Trump is acting like a sitting president, or he thinks he is. He certainly is controlling the actions of the House GOP as a private citizen.
Vice President Harris visited an abortion clinic today. This is a first for a sitting Vice President, or President, for that matter. This is big. Of course it’s good politics because most Americans support a woman’s right to chose, but, and more importantly, it also feels very right. Harris’s visit sends a visual, strong signal that the administration believes women’s rights are important. From a report in The NY Times, Harris said:
“These attacks against an individual’s right to make decisions about their own body are outrageous and, in many instances, just plain old immoral,” she said. “How dare these elected leaders believe they are in a better position to tell women what they need, to tell women what is in their best interest. We have to be a nation that trusts women.”
Here is my drawing in The New Yorker the other day, it was for their Daily Cartoon, a series they do every day. We can’t hide under the covers on this one.
I’ve returned to New York and look forward to some quiet time, working on various project and writing here. SXSW is fascinating and somewhat exhausting!
Happy Thursday, thanks for being here— as always, I value your support and input.

Not that I would have anything to do with RFK Jr. regardless, but unlike RFK and Aaron Rogers, at least Jesse Ventura has legitimate administrative experience as governor of Minnesota.
Welcome home. Your cartoon was featured online today.
