Liza, For all our sanity maybe we should dodge the Trump political scene a bit with a break from today to write and draw political history of other Presidents that would set the stage for "Seeing Things" from the past with a little of your great humor inserted. Just a thought! Thank-you for your writings and art.
Worthy to me is not someone’s personal life problem’s i really don’t care unfortunately it is happening. It has become news I think it is used being used to take our attention away from the facts .
So Donald Trump is Time magazine's Person of the Year. Here's my response in rhyme. Right before our eyes, we see a man who lies, and ignore his many cries, from his prison cell where he dies.
Thank you. I appreciate having something besides the horror show to fill my mind. Lots of people are doing lots of decent things. Let’s give them some of the oxygen.
Two interesting cartoons, the first concerning the harvesting of a Christmas tree suggest either an unwillingness to cut said tree, or an unwillingness to take responsibility for cutting it down. The second is no longer funny. The woman, confiding her desire to be a widow, had only to wed a banker in 19928 and wait for the Crash. It was a prolific widow maker.
I definitely understand what you are conveying. The reminders that keep telling me what is happening make merry tidings hard. Humor helps for sure, but I can’t help feeling sad for the people who never felt the joy Harris and Walz represented.
2 incredibly good cartoons; love the sentiment in yours!
Politics: One thing the GOP seems particularly good at is changing the narrative. Virtually none of Trump's nominees is qualified AT ALL for almost any managerial job in any company, much less ones that allow them to run billion+ agencies! Then, there are the non-qualification issues that disqualify them BUT they get the narrative completely away from professional qualifications and onto the extra curricular issue they think they can dispel and get Senate approval. It even seems to be working with Hegseth...just blows my mind. And this as trump, wife and entire brigade just grift away into his actual presidency. [puke emoji here]
Addictions are a terrible curse, difficult to overcome, and trying on all around the addicted. In our present moment, the addicts are in control. Stand back, stand by.
I can remember talking with a friend in college (1984) who said she wasn’t very interested in marriage, or kids, but she hoped to be a grandmother someday!
Keep doing all you are doing. The world needs your spirit!
If anyone deserves a break, tis you. We are all so sick of him and his puppet show. And we're enjoying this kind of lull and bracing ourselves for what is to come. And it won't be pretty. You want to keep informed but not so much that you get so mired in it, there's nothing else to report. Somehow I feel you will figure it out, and I, for one, am happy to tag along. How is the cat?
I’ll just note that the allegations against Pete Hegseth are pretty disgusting. First, they’re one-hundred-percent anonymous. Second, a man who served in combat, commanding a rifle platoon, leading from the front, responsible for the lives of the soldiers under his command, underwent a trial by fire of which his critics have zero comprehension. Hegseth isn’t the only veteran who came home with outstanding issues that complicated his life. Lots of us have been there, to a greater or lesser degree. I have strong feelings about this, which could incite me to make some intemperate remarks. But I’ll leave those thoughts on the table…
Liza, you’re right-too much trump nonsense is boring. It’s more interesting if there was something significant rather than the back and forth blather about things that are designed to be divisive and ridiculous. That’s what happened last time with Trump; different nonsense every day until people became numb. We should be used to it this time and not mention him unless it’s critical.
Lately, I read only you, Joyce Vance and Heather Cox Richardson. The three of you fill the void of what is "newsworthy" for me and I thank you for that. My husband and I cancelled our cable about three weeks ago and to be honest, we don't miss it. I love the cartoon from the Roaring 20s! One hundred years ago...so dry, humorous and oh so witty. Finally, I can't wait for your documentary!
Thank you Liza. Your writing to us always has your generous spirit regardless of length. I know the use of the the word ‘screech’ was a humorous exaggeration… but you’ve never conveyed anything but profound humanity in the face of the insults, violations and blows that are coming at all of us and our wobbly democracy. I’m excited for you in the goodness of creating your documentary. I’m excited to watch it—probably many times. And I hope you can find the tone you would want for a cartoon re Kimberly Guilfoyle being nominated. I wish I could write a caption that would be like yours and offer it….but I have no knack for gentle funny subtle nuanced humor that comes right in to that good place. Enjoy your day and weekend. Thank you as always.

Your columns are always a breath of fresh air. I love the cartoon from 1928 😂
Thank you!

My husband just asked me why I laughed out loud! I’m sparing him the last cartoon….😄
Haha!!

Thanks, Allia. The cat is great! She's a love bug but also a real personality. Best of both.
