Have a great time; enjoy. Yes, things seem strange when you get out of NYC. And it must be exhilarating to have a couple of orange-man-free days. We are all keeping our paws crossed for a good outcome. As for the prize, what a wonderful thing to be a part of. The cartoonist must be so thrilled. Love the cartoon, as always.

You are a National Treasure. Please, don't draw while in the driver's seat.

Sounds like a great trip. It’s good to leave one’s bubble. I decided to go to France for a month. I learned a lot about Lyon but even more about myself. Haven’t minded being 3000 miles away from the US media. It just doesn’t seem so dramatic from here. Live it up in Ohio and travel safe.

Humor cures all ills! Keep laughing, everyone! Make jokes, subscribe to cartoonists' Substacks and just have a whole lot of fun!

I DO hope you have read Thurber's The 13 Clocks, and read it often enough to kids to have memorized much of it.

Have so much fun, and what a wonderful reason for travel! Loved Thurber from childhood and see no reason to ever stop.

We refer to Ohio as ‘the motherland’ in our house since my husband (and his mother before him) were born in Toledo. You have to report back after the ceremony and the entire trip!

Have a lovely drive to Columbus! That's where I was born & spent the first 23 yrs of my life. It's a nice town and I always heard about the charming James Thurber when I was young. (Also golfer Jack Nicklaus who went to the same high school as I.) What joy you & Michael must have in creating and handing out that award. Good for you both! Love your cartoon and all the action & colors. You always make everything FUN!

By now you have heard that former President Trump is GUILTY on 47 counts!

While not an original Southerner, I’ve now lived in NC. for 11 years and going on our 2nd year in Summerville,SC just outside of beautiful Charleston. You should come check out the deep South including Charleston and Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. I would gladly host y’all for a night in our town but you should really spend time in Charleston.

I love your idea of a cross-country trip illustrated with your cartoons. I have noticed a regional look to our country’s people, a variety of image and style that can be seen in the different parts of our country that reminds me of our motto e pluribus unum… from many one. Have a great time in Ohio!

I should have said E pluribus unum means “out of many, one” 🙂

The Thurber award sounds like an awesome idea that you and your husband originated. It is so good for people who live in the New York and Washington DC bubble to get out into what I've heard termed "fly over states". If you went to Europe, you would visit more than one country I assume. The USA is made up of many and diverse states with varying cultures and beliefs. To understand why and how MAGA continues to have a hold, go and see for yourself. Have coffee and breakfast at the small cafe where the farmers meet in the mornings. Go to the farmer's markets. Take a look at stores like Tractor Supply. The entire county is waiting for you.

Good advice. Ask them too why they are so angry?

Linda Morland's avatar

Probably not angry, just under educated, poorly read and ill informed. Besides, that's a loaded question. "Help me understand your reasons for supporting Mr. Trump" is opening ended and might garner interesting information.

Great cartoon and appropriate too! He’s trying to drive the whole country over a cliff!

Thurber is one of my favorites! That is amazing he was your inspiration for becoming an artist. I voraciously read anything he wrote. Also Mark Twain and O. Henry.

Hi Liza, Along with everyone else who follows you, I'm wishing you and Michael a wonderful time. I love the way you express what you see, your insights, your musings and your wisdom. There is something so grounded and real, gentle and expansive, human and comforting, in what you write. It feels like you give us the best company for facing the world. Thank you!!
