Even though I am a not a Republican, I like Nikki Haley because she is a tough cookie and very well-versed in foreign policy. On a debate stage, she can hold her own; in that, she reminds me of Hillary Clinton. Her comments on abortion at last night’s debate were level headed. I don’t agree with her, and she doesn’t agree with me on the matter, but it was refreshing that she acknowledged that, pretty much saying let’s just all get along. It’s her hawkish talk that leaves me cold and worried. At times, it seemed like she took the loud hawkish tone to simply to show viewers that just because she’s a woman, she’s not a softie— I can imagine many GOP voters would tend to believe that stereotype. Her poor ( and old) joke about high heels was cringe-worthy. I did a drawing years ago about using a spiked heel as a weapon (can’t find it, it’s so old). She claims she doesn’t wear heels unless she can run in them, and said she was wearing 5 inch heels. I don’t believe she can run in them. But, she’s a better alternative than Trump, that’s for sure, heels or no heels.
So I guess it’s time to remove my Perot sticker, who knew?
love all the cartoons.
Like you my policy views differ from Niki Hailey. I wouldn’t vote for her but I think she is competent and would feel better with her in the Oval Office than Trump if we had to live with a Republican President.
I thought the Nikki Haley barb about the heels was a bit "been there, heard that." Still, if I were a Repugnacan (ewwww, never), I would probably vote for her or Christy. The others are just taking up space. I'd love to have seen a reporter fact check that....put on some five-inch heels and try to run with them....but first see if their employer pays disability insurance. Love your insight.
I care for this website and Liza's life, being and work is a joy to behold. And our group exchanges are witty and wise. Mostly.
But, discussing the debates seems a distraction at a time of mass violence in the Middle East, a region's whose being and history has been profoundly shaped by American military might. The struggles today are rooted in decades of American and European interference stretching back to the nineteenth century. With such death in Israel and Palestine (and Congo and Yemen and more) I choose not to honor or elevate the deeply troubled Republican party that is a game board for 1% financial elites all willing to use violence as a lever to be elected. (That is a crime)
Spending time discussing Niki Haley's "performance" with others seems distant and removed from the pain spilling over thousands of civilians. Instead I see a closed cohort of elites ready to once again! employ US militarized violences to kill many in their ongoing hegemonic struggles.
This can be, instead, a time to look at our own responsibilities as US citizens. After all, it can be said that Israeli jets are really American jets flown by Israeli pilots. We can easily condemn all violence in the Middle East and in other global regions. The UN reminds us that something like 100 million are refugees. Who will rebuild Gaza and tend to the deep wounds of many Israelis? All deaths are troubling and demand our attention.
How do we make the US a beacon of international peace? Perhaps we begin by Liza sharing sketches of cooperatives and community meetings where women (and men) build the world we need and deserve.
It is a horrible time, that is for me a constant. I can't write or draw about it every day. I have Israeli relatives and Palestinian friends, this all pains me so much.
Thank you for your words. I get angry at those silly elites when crying is wiser and healthier. We just need to be with each other and listen and share. Support/ love to you, yours..... always and all ways
Nikki Haley announces to the entire that she wears 5" heels, while Trumpty won't admit to his lifts.
Neither will DeSantas.
Thanks for taking the bullet for me. I didn’t have to watch the debates!
Gov shutdown? OK bombing?? Don’t know.

I especially love the drawing at the end, with you spinning a line running circles around you. Drawing is discursive!
I feel similarly toward Liz Chaney, who has integrity and while there's a lot she and I may disagree on, I know she'd listen.
Saw the clip when she added “scum” to a response and thought - hmmm . Still, the shadow of her support for Trump can’t take me to liking her.
yes, you are very right.

Yes. Good sentiments about listening and being there.
