What a great discovery. And you captured it beautifully. Haunted, of course, how could it not be? I see it filling up at night with Casper-like ghosts waiting for a haircut and some gossip!
Thanks for sharing the photos, especially of the interior - like barber shops in the small Illinois town where I grew up. But this seems to have stayed in use until recently? Very intriguing.
There are a lot of VT relics . And the humble unnoticed are usually the ones that have and hold the real meaning. Your sketch honors and respects that L! 🙏 I’ve learned along my NH and VT journey to try and see this always . Architecture and design never lie…
Awesome. But how did you get inside for those photos? Maybe the inhabitants were raptured. It looks like something out of the "Twilight Zone." Brilliant as always
Wow. Really? You were able to take THOSE photos from the window????? Wow. It is spooky, though, and kind of sad. I can imagine it filled with people and everything humming.
Abandoned structures are rich with stories: the sound of the till ringing up the sale and the shop chatter echoed in those photos. But I think the genius is captured in your decision to rely on lines not color for your drawing which, for me, revealed both a sadness in the loss if yesteryear and a beauty in what remains.
Thanks, D.L. I think I made the right decision, particularly since its color was rather ugly! I hate to say any color is ugly, but.... I am glad it worked in just line.
A building frozen in time, and yet not, as it is deteriorating around all the fixtures inside. I loved watching you drawing. All the little details added at the end. It is hard to know when to stop sometimes.
The cash register! The chairs! The pendulum clock! Love that the building drew your eye- such a trove!
IT was so wonderful. Mysterious and beautiful and puzzling....

😂
Thank you, Patris. There's a story in there!

Thank you for a rush of memories. My one uncle had a small barber shop very similar in layout.

I didn't! They were taken with my phone flat against the window. Worked beautifully. Thanks!

That wonderful old barber shop would be a collector's dream.
My grandfather was a barber. His was also a small 3 chair shop. I love the old clock!
Good starting place for a novel. Where did everyone go?
Yes!

Abandoned indeed! Wonder why. What happened to interrupt the goings on? Suddenly it would seem.
The interior is bizarre. It's hard to imagine that the business was simply abandoned, that the owner just walked out the door and didn't look back.

Thank you. Yes, it is hard to know when to stop!
By omitting color, you have captured something that suits this antique better, as a black-and-white photo would. Love it.
Glad you think so. Color would have been tough, and complicated and not add much I don't think. Thanks, Linda!
Thought I'd literally 'melt' at the sight of that. old-timey cash register!!!
Can understand the draw this building had for you! Thanks again...Liza.
Great minds think alike…
