Keep trying! Where’s a dangling pull on cap w long knitted “tail” that wraps around neck & ends w tassle bit showing ? I love the happiness of your efforts ! Makes me want to quit w all this wordiness & try pencil drawings 😉. PS. HAPPY DAY TO YOU & all your friends n families
The rooftop, with the snow figure... Wish I were spending New Year's Eve there. I could be all bundled up, and warm, and safe; maybe the sky would be clear and I could see a few stars, even in the city. That's what I'm going to visualize as the night goes on. Happy New Year, everybody, and thanks again to you, Liza, for generously sharing your gifts.
I would certainly wear any the rejected hats and I especially covet the middle one. What is this connection with women who draw cartoons (I do) collect interesting old hats (I do) and playing the harmonica (I do) I just unwrapped a new Lee Oskar C harp for Christmas as I about wore out and smooshed the good old Marine Band.
You are helping me every day with a smile and the truth I wish you harmory and peace for this upcoming year
Interesting comment... Though not a woman (chromosomal randomness) I did, originally, aspire to be a cartoonist; as it turned out, I mostly went in the direction of letterforms and graphics. I have only a few hats (prefer my beret), but love playing harmonica. Note that Mr. Lee Oskar lives only a few miles from me, near Everett, WA (Everett is near Seattle.) Play on! A harmonica version of Auld Lang Syne!
Happy "Me-ow" Year. Thank you for getting us through the last, and we will all be holding on for dear life as you help us navigate what's coming. Peace, love, hugs, and headbutts, to all, and for now I am very happy. I was able to block ads for the orange man's whiskey glasses. Eureka!
Leave it to you, hats and rejects, a real hoot. A New Year tipple of my Irish hat collection to you. All ye fair lassies and frisky lads be safe as you frolic about this eve.
All I can say is… I love your uncle wherever he may be! Anybody who plays the harmonica is a good guy in my book! Everything else is icing on the cake! Happy new year to everyone out there!
He was such a wonderful guy, long gone, I am afraid. He used to sing the song Barnegat Bay and expect us to chime in on the chorus...and sometimes he'd sing to me personally, and as a shy 7 year old it was hard for me, but I loved him so much. Thanks for being here, Sandy, and for your comments and thoughtfulness!
thank you for the many bright moments you shared with us this year. I would wear a silly hat on many occasions, but NYE is a good idea for silliness as we head into 2025. Have a great evening of celebration.
Liza, your colorful New Yorker cover idea was really creative! They made a mistake by not using it as the real cover. I hope to see more of your color illustrations.
I’ve spent this December watching more old Xmas movies than in years combined and was surprised at how New Years Eve parties have changed… any of your hats would have been sought out in the 40-50s. See The Apartment. Jack Lemon was a favorite.
Happy new year, Liza! Wishing you a great year ahead! I’ll look forward to your art and commentary in a year which promises to be full of surprises-not all of them good ones!
