Here are two drawings from last week’s batch that I sent into The New Yorker. I love drawing swings and tall trees. Over the years, I think I have been inspired by the Krazy Kat by George Herriman. It’s visually interesting to me, and one can put anthing/anyone on a swing and have it mean something.
A hard-core conservative is someone who doesn’t gripe when supply shortages drive the price of eggs over a dollar a piece or if gas goes up a buck. They are like elves. Many claim to believe they exist, but no one has convincing evidence. Or a libertarian not complaining about being kept waiting at the ER.
My long time partner and I share the same political views. Each of has said we couldn’t do any other way. That was probably a factor in bringing us together 24 years ago.
Ahh, the swinging snail! A laugh out loud moment, as I saw the "Wheeee!" before seeing who was saying it! As for partners and shared political views ... as kids, we spent our summers in New Hampshire often visiting an older couple who lived up the dirt road from us. They were truly another set of grandparents to us. I didn't understand it early on, but Rollie was a Republican and Helen was a Democrat. She told my mother once, very good-naturedly, "I just use my vote to cancel his out" and all was well between them. But, were those less contentious times when it was easier to disagree? I don't know.
Reminds me of my aunt and uncle. He was a Republican (the old fashioned good kind), and I wasn't sure about her. But after he died, it became clear her leanings were more democratic. Those were less contentious times, or at least there was cooperation across party lines.
That snail is sooo cute. I hope they buy it! As for being politically aligned with your spouse, I wonder if those who aren't understand that at the polls they routinely cancel each other's vote!
Liza, Thank you for giving me a much-needed smile today.
I'm so glad!!
Wonderful, as you always are
Thank you, Patris.

Thank you! They didn't. If I show you all an unpublished cartoon and its not behind the paywall, then The New Yorker didn't buy it!
Ah! I wondered about that. Their loss our gain.
