I was just talking about that with a friend. How this is a time suspended - unique in our lives. Even when you don’t celebrate Christmas it is the thing that everyone experiences.
We didn’t box things up, but we did fill Red Stockings. I don’t remember what organization organized Red Stockings, but they handed out plain red stockings of the sort one sees hung from fireplaces in photos of Christmas, and you could take one and fill it with small gifts, then turn it back in to be delivered to a family unable to provide gifts for their kids. Our family didn’t have much, but our mother always wanted us to fill at least one Red Stocking because when she was one of nine young children, the Red Stocking people delivered stockings to her family. It obviously meant a lot to her. This was in the late 40s in the midwest. I don’t know how many years it continued.
Ha! I've had to drop the term Boxing Day since I moved to the US... no one gets it. And to be honest, we never did growing up either since the tradition never extended beyond the sentiment. But, happy Boxing Day, Liza!
Now is the time I look at my Christmas decorations and think about the joy putting them all up and anticipate the nuisance taking them all down and repacking them. Oh well, such is the season. It's a given we donate toys at Christmas and start clearing out for the New Year to come. Salvation Army and Goodwill are our drop offs. Thanks for the wonderful cartoons as always, Liza.
Precisely this morning I told a friend that these days past Christmas felt so calm, like deflated Christmas decorations like the big Santas that people put in front of their homes for a brief joyful time, filled constantly by forced air and once deflated , waiting to be taken away. She could not understand.
II would prefer to listen / watch a funny standup comedy that would keep my spirits up...Reading these days sends me to sleep in 5 minutes. -- but we did get fluffy and warm things to charity prior to the holidays which could be used by homeless under the cold windy nights we are experiencing in the state.

Do you have any good reading suggestions?
One of the best books I read this year was And There Was Light, Jon Meacham’s Lincoln book. History spiraling with today’s politics.
Yes! I read that as well. Amazing.
I just finished Heather Cox Richardson's Democracy Awakening. And am currently reading Joyce Carol Oat's Night Sleep Death The Stars.
Just finished reading Heather's latest. Not read Oat's.
I LOVE the first one and your persistence in getting it out. Congrats
Having raised six, I love these two cartoons. I also love your perspective on Christmas. Were it not for Christmas, I might be a rich man.
Both cartoons are great. Really great.
Beautifully profound.
